Chapter 232: Unexpected Savior

Selthia blinked. For a moment, she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“W-What…. What are you doing here?” she asked as she let out a shaky breath.

Her legs trembled, and she collapsed to the ground, breathing heavily with her hand on her chest. When she saw Persephone appear in front of her, she thought that was it.

With her body trembling uncontrollably, she stared up to look at the back of the figure who saved her.

The first thing she saw was a pair of moth wings and beautiful white hair that flowed with the wind.

“Khalissi?”

Selthia could hardly believe her eyes. Her savior was the demon. At the last second, she had intercepted the attack, saving her life.

Khalissi stood, holding Persephone by the wrist, an amused smile playing on her lips.

Persephone looked at the smile on the demon’s face, and she couldn’t help but feel agitated.

“You’re the demon that was causing trouble before,” Persephone said.

“And you’re one of Aphrodite’s girls,” Khalissi shot back.

“I’m my own person, one of the four queen witches. Aphrodite might’ve taught us magic, but we have far surpassed her.”

“Aphrodite doesn’t know much about magic to begin with. Surpassing her is nothing special,” Khalissi said, and then a teasing smile appeared on her face when she saw the mana crystal around the witch’s neck.

’These witches can’t even cast spells without mana crystals. It’s not because they can’t; it’s just lack of skill.’

Just then, she realized something. The red mana crystal around the witch’s neck was different from the others she had seen before.

From just a glance, she could tell that it was artificially made and didn’t come by natural means.

’Your blood quality is determined by the amount of mana you have inside your blood. I’m guessing the reason blood is the currency of this city is not solely because the vampires enjoy the taste. The witches were extracting the mana from the blood and using them to make artificial mana crystals.’

Khalissi felt a little impressed. Of course, demons had figured how to do this centuries ago, but only a select few that were close to the demon king knew the technique.

Many had tried to figure it out, but most had failed. She never would have imagined that the witches would’ve figured it out. This caused her to be slightly more curious about the witch in front of her.

“Something caught your eye?” Persephone asked as she noticed the demon staring at the mana crystals around her neck.

Persephone was secretly excited to face a demon. She had heard how proficient demons were at using magic, and so she wanted to test her strength against Khalissi.

She had seen how Khalissi stopped her previous attack aimed to kill Selthia, as if it was nothing.

“Wait, darling, you were supposed to be with him,” Selthia suddenly shouted in panic when she realized that Liam wasn’t with Khalissi.

Khalissi spared her a glance. She didn’t even seem worried about turning her attention away from the witch. This disrespect made Persephone more irritated.

“He’s fighting against that vampire. He was worried about you, so he sent me here to help,” Khalissi explained.

Selthia wasn’t convinced by this explanation. She wanted to go help, but she couldn’t lift her legs to stand up.

“It’s fine. He can handle the vampire,” Khalissi assured her, and just when her back was turned, the witch struck.

She compressed the air around her into the palm of her hand, ready to release the pressure and create a powerful explosion.

She struck while Khalissi was distracted and attempted a palm strike.

She was confident that the attack would hit, but in the next second, her confidence was dashed. Before she could even make contact, Khalissi grabbed her wrist.

She applied her strength and twisted the witch’s hand, bringing her down to her knees.

“Compressing the air around you, then releasing it all at once to create an explosion.” Khalissi smiled. “You don’t expect to beat me with such party tricks.”

“It’s not a trick! It’s a technique that takes years to master. The fact that you don’t recognize that shows your little knowledge for magical arts.”

“Oh?”

Khalissi smiled, seeming more amused by the second. She then stretched out the palm of her hand, and immediately, dark energy began dancing in her palm.

This energy had a purplish tint. She modified it into the shape of a ball, then began compressing the energy inside the ball. Like folding paper onto itself over and over again until it had the thickness of rock.

Soon, the ball of energy was the size of a pebble. She then turned to Persephone with a wide grin on her face.

“Is this the special technique you spoke of? It didn’t take me years to perform, did it?”

The witch stared at her with her mouth opened wide.

“How did you…”

“Now let’s test it, shall we,” Khalissi interrupted her before she could speak.

The moment Khalissi spoke those words, the witch’s pupil shrunk to the size of a needle, and her face paled.

In a panic, the wind around her began to pick up to create another tornado, but she couldn’t even get the chance to execute a palm strike on her stomach, pressing the ball against her, then released the energy all at once.

The dark energy exploded, engulfing where they stood in black flames. The witch’s screams mingled with the sound of the explosion and the crackling of flames.

Khalissi guarded herself and Selthia against the explosion. When the flames dispersed and the magic settled, all that stood in front of her was a body.

The body was charred, resembling coal. Every inch of her was burnt to a crisp, but somehow she was still alive.

At the last second, Persephone had used her magic to protect herself, but all it did was make sure she didn’t die immediately.

Such injuries were impossible for her to survive. Even vampires would have a hard time healing these wounds, Khalissi thought.

Plus, the wounds were caused by her dark magic, meaning every inch of her was corroded, making it impossible to heal with magic.

“Fool, you only made your death slower,” Khalissi shook her head, as she stared at the pitiful specimen on the ground.
