A cloud of golden smoke, accompanied by loud music and flashing lights, signaled John’s arrival back to DEN. He patiently waited for it to clear as Elvis announced his return.

“Please welcome back to the stage, our oldest competitor, John Wayne!”

The room fell silent as the cloud cleared, revealing that John was no longer wearing his Leathers but the khaki shorts and pineapple shirt he had on at the beach a few days ago. All his equipment was on the table between him and Alec, including a very odd-looking Pelican figurine. It was slightly larger and, for some reason, glowing green. 

“I see you see the problem as well, John,” Alec said, the man noticing John’s gaze.

“What is wrong with it?” John asked, confused.

“It is full of people.” The man sighed. “I thought we told you not to keep anything in the vehicles?”

“Wait, what happened?”

“What happened is that I prevented you from killing everyone on board by accident. When you returned, it tried to come back with you to DEN since you were touching it. The radiation here at the Omni is not conducive to normal human survival. You get a pass as a DEN contestant, but these people would have been killed nearly instantly.”

“Shit. I didn’t know.”

“Yeah, well, it’s fine. I put this barrier around it, but whenever you use it again, your passengers will stay in the world you expand it in. All of them.”

“Ahh… crap,” John said. He was happy that Lucy, Mia, and Rei would be able to come, but he wasn’t expecting the rest. He would have to make sure it was somewhere fairly safe for that.

“Indeed, you will, John. Now that that is out of the way. How was your trip into the Bonus World?”

John took a drink from the glass that was beside him, the Westria flowing quickly into his body and refocusing his mind. “It was hard. Our equipment was crap, and the fact that we even made it to the fight with Clan Wolf was incredible. I felt like I was always one step away from dying in a nuclear fire. If it wasn’t for all these extra skills I have, I doubt I would have made it as far as I did.”

“It’s true. In the stories canon, the Guards were just a ragtag group of MechWarriors with subpar equipment. They didn’t know how the Clans operated and were obliterated just outside of town. Your sparing Lucy, then Mia, gave you some advantages, but overall, you were never going to actually win there. I think you pretty much had the best ending you could have received by becoming their Prefect, with your escape just being the sauce on the goose, ya?” 

“So… how did I do?”

“Well, we will need to calculate the totals, but because of that, your rewards are going to be a little funky,” Alec said, gesturing to the Pelican.

A screen popped up in front of John, and it looked a lot different than the ones from the previous worlds.

What did this mean by the route taken? And these rewards? What is an Omniportal? Omnigate?

“You are looking at the problem. You see, the Omniportals were so you could teleport your family in BT to whatever world you wanted, but since they are stuck inside your Pelican, you inadvertently have the reward already and then some. So you get the final reward only, a single light mech, and the next time you use the Pelican, you can release everyone into that world.” He said, then waved his hand. A small token landed in John’s lap, looking vaguely like a mech, though he wasn’t familiar with the design.

“Well, that is good. Thank you.” He replied, then asked his next question before he got off track with the mech. “And what is this Omnigate.

“Ah ha! Well, you seem interested in making this a true multiverse story, so the director decided to run with it. Once you complete a world’s story to DEN’s satisfaction, you will be provided with OG-2 and so forth. You will then be able to link two worlds together with the Omnigates. When you are in either of those worlds, time will continue to flow in both of them. 

For example, you could drop a gate in High School DxD and another in Warcraft 3, and you could move from being a school principal to being a prince. Maybe get the devils to fight the scourge for you? Ahh, probably be a hard sell as you are there right now, but it’s possible. As you develop the story in these worlds more, I’m sure you will find situations where you will find a use for it.”

John just blinked. He now had a way to bring people and things between worlds? That… that would change many of his future plans for some of those worlds. He shook his head; he was getting off track. He still needed to get resurrection magic, and he needed to get back to The Great Cleric before he could return to Warcraft to get it. 

“What is this Achievement for?”

“Clan Wayne? You are not a Wolf, but you are taking on their ways by having two sworn bondsmen to you. So we have bestowed this reward upon you. Basically, anyone who you have sworn into your service or has become committed to you will get some minor bonuses from your system. It’s like the party system, which you still haven’t used yet, but is active when they are not in your party.”

“I really need to stop and look at that stuff soon.” He muttered.

“Yes, you do. Thankfully, Xiaolin has a short trip planned for you once we finish up here. You had a rough time in the last two worlds, so we thought it would be good to have another break before you carry on. You can look that all up then.”

The tiger-striped woman popped out from behind a curtain, wearing a skimpy black swimsuit, and blew a kiss his way. That explained his attire. He blew her one back then and refocused on Alec.

Apparently, I am getting a couple of days off again.

“Dare I ask what mech I am getting?” He asked, looking at the generic-looking mech now in his palm.

“Do you need to ask? You had such fun with the garbage can.” Alec replied, the shit-eating grin returning to his face.

“Seriously? Why would you do that to me, Alec?”

“Hah! You should see the look on your face. No, it will be randomized…though an UrbanMech is still a possibility. Any further questions?”

“Yeah, what is with these other routes? And why are the ones I am on not completed even though the world is complete?”

“Well, the story was like a choose-your-own-adventure book. You had different possible outcomes depending on what you decided to do. If you and Freddy decided to party hard instead of you returning to save Lucy from being executed, you could have been tag-teaming women every night with him. Or, if you pressed Maggie a bit, she might have come out of her delusion about Freddy, and you could have had a relationship. Or if you decided to embrace your inner pirate, you could have joined with Susie. 

There was no right route; there were just different options. As to why you didn’t get max points for Lucy, well, you are still unmarried. For Mia, you didn’t get her a bondcord, and become a Couple in her mind. You technically have step 11 finished, but you missed step 10. It is very important for her to have that bondcord.”

“I see, well, I don’t think I would have changed anything. Let’s move on.” John said. He wasn’t sure why his relationships were part of his points system, but he assumed it would be a one-off event in the bonus world.

John pondered it for a moment. His buffering of his Stamina, Intelligence, and Wisdom had definitely helped with his exhaustion and mental state, but wrestling with Bryn showed him he really needed to be able to react faster. That would help him in many situations.

“Dump my stat points into reflex, please.”

He glanced at the new stuff in his skill list. “What is this all from?”

“Learning from James how to run an operation. All those little details that he seemed to pick up and be ready for it were training for you to see how to lead people, not just from the front, but from the rear. They are all passive skills, but will be useful for you going forward as you train.”

John nodded. It made some sense to him. He really didn’t have much else to talk about, and if Xiaolin had another vacation planned for them, he would much rather get on with that.

“Give me five Eroge rolls, please, and one mid-tier vehicle.” He said, keeping the majority of his tokens free for larger purchases later. It was handy to have the extra tokens to boost his Pelican, making it even more useful.

John sat back in his chair as the gatcha started to spin again, enjoying his drink. Whatever was in it was great at letting him reset himself when he returned here. 

“Congratulations, you have acquired the Mid-Tier Vehicle 1991 Harley Davidson Fat Boy. Whether down the strip or to terminate mankind, this Hollywood special is ready to carry you wherever you need to go. Connor’s not included.” Elvis announced, as a black-and-grey motorcycle materialized beside John. It roared to life, revving a few times, before going silent. 

“That… I was not expecting.” John said, looking over at his new ride. It looked just like the bike Schwarzenegger used in Terminator 2, and was easily large enough to accommodate his frame. 

“Much like your Madd Max car, this bike is more durable to weapons fire and can drive over both dirt and the streets with ease. You can fuel it with Gatcha as well if whatever world you use it in doesn’t have gas.” Alec added.

“Sounds good,” John replied. It had been years since he drove one, but he was sure that wouldn’t be an issue.

The gatcha continued, filled with lights, flashing and exploding smoke bombs. Thankfully, he didn’t get wacked with things again.

“Congratulations, you have acquired the skill ‘Healing Touch’. When activated, your hands will feel amazing to anyone you touch with them.”

“Congratulations, you have acquired ‘Shoulder Repair’. Your shoulder is now back to normal, no more random dislocations for you.”

“Congratulations, you have acquired ‘Increased Bone Density’. Less chances of breaking something if you fall.”

“Congratulations, you have acquired ‘Increased Tongue Length’. Your tongue is now 1 cm longer.”

“Congratulations, you have acquired ‘Increased Tongue Dexterity’. With some practice, you may be able to tie a cherry stem in a knot.”

Energy flooded into John’s right shoulder, and he could feel the old injury finally healing completely. He gave it a couple of good rolls; it seemed to have the same flexibility as his left arm now. 

“This is great, Alec, thank you!” He said. His body was finally repaired. Well… except his eye, ear, and face. 

Damn… okay maybe not completely repaired.

“No problem, you earned it. Now, before you two take off for a couple of days, do you have any final questions about Battletech or anything else?”

John thought back, then looked down at the table. His bow and house were there now, returned to him yet again. “Why did you only let me keep a few things from the Gatcha for that world?”

“We didn’t think you would need them there, and honestly, I thought you might have gone up in a nuclear fire and destroyed them in Suzy Q. So we kept the ones that didn’t seem to have an immediate use back here. You did spend an awful lot of tokens on them.” Alec said, folding his hands in front of him. “Of course, I should have asked first. Would a holy bow or the sex den, as you like to call it, have been helpful there?” 

“The house, maybe, but I see your point.”

“Good, because for the rest of these worlds, we won’t be protecting anything. Battletech was just a little special; your goal was to survive progressively more dangerous encounters within another death world. That place is always in a constant state of strife, with civilization nearly on the verge of collapse. Your little spot out in the middle of nowhere was usually a pretty quiet place compared to most.”

“So, it says it is completed and closed, but is evolving. Does that mean I can go back sometime?”

“Of course you can, though that will be some time. Why, were you actually planning to go back?”

“No, I’m good. I was just curious.” John said, standing up. “Well, I think I am ready for whatever Xiaolin has planned.”

“Good. Have fun, kids, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!” Alec replied, then gave the pair of them a wave before disappearing.

Xiaolin walked up to John, a huge grin on her face. They embraced, kissing tenderly for a minute before John pulled back from the old goddess. 

“Missed you, tiger.”

“Missed you too. Speaking of tigers,” She said, then snapped her fingers. Her body changed from just having tiger-striped skin to having two orange-and-black cat ears and a long orange-and-black tail. “There! Now, we’re off!”

“Wait! Wher-?” John said, but was suddenly teleported away, leaving the DEN stage empty yet again.
