He wasn’t sure what happened, but long as she was with him, he didn’t care. They needed to get out of there. Just then, the door burst open. A student with glasses came into the room, wearing a black button up jacket and pants, with a white shirt underneath. He looked like he could be a preacher in those clothes.
“SHIZUKA-SAN! WE NEED TO GO- Why are you hanging off that guy?!”
“Hun? Why wouldn’t I? He kissed me.”
“K-K-Kissed?!” the kid looked flabbergasted.
Poor guy. I wonder if he was trying for her…not that I was trying and I have seemed to have gotten her attention.
“Yes. And it was very good.”
“Enough Shizuka-San, we need to get out of here!”
I couldn’t agree more.
“You two, I need you to grab medical supplies. Pain killers, bandages, disinfectants, whatever you can that we don’t need to keep cold. We are getting out of this place as soon as possible. Busujima, guard the door.”
“Yes Sensei.”
Saeko went to the door to watch for more zombies. Shizuka started gathering stuff from the cabinets, packing them into a large suitcase like bag. The student just stared at John.
“What are you waiting for? Do you want to live or not? Move!”
“What are your intentions with my Shizuka!”
“Are you still stuck on that? There are bloody zombies walking around the school and you are worried about a kiss?”
“She is my girl! Back off- ACK!”
John had enough of his nonsense and bonked him on the head with his bokken, gently enough not to throw his shoulder this time.
“Ouch!”
“Stop with the nonsense and get packing! I only have so much space in my truck, so if you want a ride, be useful.”
“Yes…Sensei”
The guy started to gather more equipment in another bag. Soon, the pair of them had two larger packs full of supplies, along with a smaller medical backpack that Shizuka was wearing. John found some tape on the desk and wrapped all the loose bokken into a tighter bundle and took some tension bandages and made a strap so he could hold them over his shoulder freeing his other arm. It wasn’t perfect but it should stay mostly out of his way. He also learned the guys name was Kazu Ishii, and was a second year student here at the school, not her boyfriend.
“Okay let’s-“
GRAAAAHHH!!!!
“Sensei, there are about six of them in the hall now.”
“Right, Shizuka-San, Mr. Kazu, you two stay behind us and watch our backs. We will move slow and steady to the cafeteria, grab whatever food we can, then get out of here. Look out for some spare bags to pack what food we can in.”
“Who made you the leader?” Ishii said.
Seriously, what is his problem.
John ignored him and stepped into the hallway with Saeko beside him. The closest zombie was about fifteen feet away, and hadn’t noticed them yet, which was amazing since they were not exactly quiet. He put a hand on Saeko’s shoulder and motioned her to be quiet.
They just stood there, waiting. The zombie was looking right at them but did not move towards them.
Do they not see us? How do they know where we are? Sounds maybe?
John was about to pick up something from his pocket to throw when Ishii spoke up behind them.
“What are you waiting for-“
GRRRAHHHH!!!
The zombies all started lunging towards the group. John gripped his bokken with two hands, determined not to dislocate his shoulder again.
“I have the ones on the right side. The left are yours.”
Saeko didn’t say anything but stepped forward and slashed at the first zombie, crushing its head, and causing it to topple immediately. John stepped forward as well, and the slaughter continued. The zombies were not close together so it was easy to not be swarmed by their numbers.
His shoulder still hurt, but it stayed in place this time. There was nothing fancy with his movements, he wasn’t using the bokken as a sword or even pretending to. It was just a club. Up and down, step forward, up and down. Three times he completed that simple movement. Three times he crushed a skull. A woman, a man, and a teenage girl.
When the last one dropped, he nodded to Saeko to move forward, then turned back to the pair behind him. They both looked like they were about to be sick, and honestly he didn’t blame them, he wanted to be sick too. His front was covered in flecks of blood and other matter. He just hopped the spray wouldn’t turn him into a zombie too. He pointed towards the corpses.
“This is what makes me the leader. If you have a complaint, I will gladly listen to you, once we escape to safety.” he said, then flicked the gore off his bokken to emphasize his point.
“Now lets go, and remain quiet unless its an emergency. The zombies didn’t see us standing but they could hear us. If you see something we miss, let us know, quietly.”
“Yes Sensei.” “Yes Sensei” “Yes John-San”
They made their way through the school slowly, the screams of people and the groans of the zombies echoing throughout the place. They encountered a few smaller groups of zombies, but nothing substantial until they made it to the cafeteria. They saw no more living people on their way.
Inside the cafeteria, about thirty zombies were milling around, some feasting on the corpses of other students. Many tables with bench seating lined the majority of the room, with one wall consisting of a counter for the kitchen. There was a set of double doors nearby the entrance door where John’s party was hidden, leading into the kitchen area. Across the room were several doors leading to the outside.
Crap that is a lot of zombies.
He backed them up quietly, and brought them into a nearby classroom to make a plan.
After he closed the door he looked at the group. Saeko’s uniform was like his clothing, soiled in the blood of the zombies. She didn’t seem phased about killing the zombies, which was really surprising since this is the modern world and Japan was a peaceful nation. She just looked at him expectantly with her emotionless face.
The other two however, had very different expressions. Ishii was nearly hyperventilating, laying down on top of the large desk in front of the class, his bag discarded to the side. His eyes were closed and he kept checking his pulse with his fingers.
That is a more appropriate response. I would probably be doing the same if it wasn’t for the fact that I was sent here by those higher beings to entertain them. Or maybe I would be the same as I am now…either way I won’t judge him for it.
Shizuka was trying to use her phone but it kept disconnecting, and she would quietly curse each time. She was terrified when we started to move away from the infirmary but quickly just accepted the situation and rolled with it. She even started to hum a little tune a couple times then caught herself before anyone needed to tell her to be quiet. She was just a down right adorable airhead. If it wasn’t for the situation they were in, he would have asked her out at lunch to see where it went.
Why am I even thinking about that right now?
“We need to get over to the parking lot on the other side of those doors. We should also stock up on some food in the kitchen. I have a few ideas but I would like to hear your thoughts before I say my plans.”
“Wait! It’s ringing!” Shizuka exclaimed loudly, jumping up and down happily. Her giant breasts seemed to defy the laws of physics and bounced around with her, mesmerizing John for a moment.
Snap out of it man! What’s wrong with you? oh-
John just realized that with this somewhat younger body, his little me was working again. He had ED for the last decade, but it wasn’t like he was using it that much even before then. Now, he was proudly pitching a tent, and ready to get some action. He wasn’t even a boob guy, but something about her turned him on.
Fuck, later little guy.
“Hello Rika! Yes I am fine. Still at the school but working with some people to escape as its filled with these people who…yeah. Oh my. Okay. We are planning to leave the city but we don’t know where yet. Un-hun. Was that a gun shot? Rika?! Okay. Stay safe.”
She put her phone away, and seemed startled when she noticed everyone was watching her.
“What? It was my roommate.”
“Yeah we gathered it was something like that. What did she say?”
“Oh, she said Japan is in a state of emergency right now. There are outbreaks all over the country of this abnormal behavior and the authorities have declared martial law to quell these riots that are breaking out. She is at the airport guarding planes as they evacuate people. She likes your plan of getting out of the city. She will try and find us later if she can.”
“R-riots? Are they calling these victims of being bitten and turning into…what did you call them Sensei? Zombies? that they are calling them rioters? Are They Insane!” Ishii jumped up from the desk, his voice rising with every word, practically shouting at the end. John put his hand on his shoulder, gaining the smaller mans attention.
“Quiet down Mr. Kazu. Yelling will only bring attention to our position.”
That shut the man up. He sat back down and mumbled an apology. Saeko just watched from the side staring at the guy with a cold expression on her face. She was beginning to see him as a liability to the group at this point if he didn’t calm down.
“Okay, so this doesn’t change my plans, it just confirms that the city isn’t an isolated case. Now, for the cafeteria issue.”
“We should just avoid it and find food elsewhere. It will be really difficult to deal with so many of these…zombies with just the two of us fighting Sensei. Even if we all use the bokken, the odds are not good.” Saeko said, glancing at the other two at the end of her statement, implying that they would be useless even if armed.
“Yeah I agree with Miss Busujima, we can just stop at a convivence store. Almost everything there is premade or non perishable. We wouldn’t need to worry about cooking meals then. Though a lot of salt isn’t good long term.” Shizuka stated.
Ishii nodded along with them, and John agreed with them. He thought about setting a choke point up with some desks, but the risk of having thirty undead charging towards them and pushing them out of the way was too much for so little gain.
“Sounds good. Is there a side exit nearby? If we can get to my truck we can get off school grounds easy enough.”
Just then, there was loud knock on the door. A female voice spoke.
“Hello, is anyone in there? We heard voices. We need help!”
Shizuka rushed to the door before anyone could say anything and opened it up. “Shhh, quietly come in.”
Four students piled into the room. Two boys and two girls. One of the boys was leaning heavily on the other, apparently injured. The uninjured guy was holding what looked like a nail gun strapped to some rulers. One girl had an aluminum broom handle and the other had a bat. All of them were covered in ichor.
“Set him down on the table. Let me look at him.” Shizuka said, gesturing to the table Ishii was laying on a moment ago.
The boy brought his friend over and laid him down. He wasn’t conscious any more. John had a bad feeling about this and moved over to the table to be able to pull Shizuka back at the first sign of trouble. She appeared not to notice him and started going over her new patient.
“What happened to him?”
The girl with the pink hair answered her. “He got bit. There were too many of those…people…and we were about to be overwhelmed, then he …”
“IT WAS MY FAULT! I tripped and he jumped in to protect me.” The other girl, a brunette said, tears rolling out of her eyes. “I just lost Hisashi, I can’t lose Takashi too! Can you please help him Nurse-Kun!”
“I see.” She backed away, all too aware of what happened in her infirmary. “We can’t-“
GRAHHHHH!
John looked behind him. They made a mistake and left the door open. Standing there were eight zombies coming into the room. He didn’t hesitate and hefted his bokken.
“Busujima, back me up.” John swung, cracking the lead zombie in the side of the head. Saeko was beside him in an instant, and they finished off the remaining zombies quickly, using the door as a choke point to limit their numbers. He quickly went around and stabbed each zombie through the head, making sure they were down. Saeko copied him. When they were done, and were trying to move the bodies out to the hall so they could close the door properly, a scream came from behind them.
“ARGH! My Neck!”
By the desk, the kid, Takashi had bitten Ishii’s neck from behind. Ishii had been watching the action by the door so was taken completely by surprise.
“NO! TAKASHI!” The brunette yelled.
Before John could turn back, the other boy with the nail gun, turned to his friend and shot him in the head. Several times. He was shaking so bad by the end of it he dropped the improvised weapon. Thankfully it didn’t go off causing further injuries or deaths. The pink haired girl went to him, holding his shoulders as he kept saying something about he had no choice.
The brunette was being held back by Shizuka, the nurse not wanting to let her go to her friend incase she got infected too. She looked to the other student that was bitten, then back to John. He nodded and stepped forward to finish the lad off as well, but Saeko stepped in front of him.
Kneeling down, she looked at Ishii. He looked up at her, blood covering his neck, squirting slightly every time his heart beat. Takashi’s teeth caught an artery, and the poor kid would probably bleed out if his imminent resurrection into a zombie was not about to happen.
“Haha, I guess this is it.” Ishii said to her.
“You know what happens to those who get bitten don’t you? Do you want your family and friends to see you like that? If you’d rather not, then though I haven’t murdered anyone before…” Saeko said to the boy, a hard expression on her face.
“I will help you.”
“Help…me…please.”
“What are-” Shizuka started to say, then checked herself. She knew it was already too late.
“Protecting a man’s honour…is the very source of pride for a woman.”
