Chapter 108: Body Count?
After Anna had her pet turn around, and fly towards the rocky mountain, she expected the trip back home to be quick. It was a reasonable expectation, but as she flew towards the mountain, she got curious.
The bottom of the rocky mountain had a river passing through it, and this river headed east, towards the sea. She wanted to get a general idea of how straight this river was shaped, in terms of directions towards the sea.
If the river bed was as straight as an arrow, she may just need to follow it next time, straight to a salt deposit, instead of searching the entire shores of the sea for salt. Salt deposits had a better chance of forming where the river met with the sea. It should shorten their hunt for salt dramatically.
It was a good idea to approach the river, and analyze it, but as soon as she landed, trouble arose. She figured that it would be safe to land here, because she had a giant, protective pet, for one thing, and she was sure that big predators would not roam these lands. They wouldn’t benefit from hunting in the north lands, and in turn, her pet could even get a short break, and swallow a few small dinosaurs that happen to be passing by.
Anna did not account for other dangers, though. Specifically, dangers coming from intelligent creatures, such as humans.
Minutes after she landed, she heard multiple thuds. For a second, she didn’t know where these thuds came from, but then, she heard Bonita cawing, practically screaming in pain.
Anna turned around in the blink of an eye, and saw the tails of two spears lodged in Bonita’s right wing, piercing her flesh, close to her claw.
“What the fuck!” She winced, and then rushed towards her pet. “Bonita!”
Anna wasn’t scared, she wasn’t concerned for her own personal safety, but when she saw Bonita yelping, she got so angry, so heartbroken, that all she heard afterwards was this deafening, rage-ampted whistle in her ears! She had snapped into a primal rage, fitting the situation.
She didn’t want Bonita to get speared again, so she stood in front of her pet, and then snapped the tails of the spears with her bare hands. She didn’t pull the spear heads out, because she feared Bonita would bleed out in minutes.
With the spear tails on her hands, she then turned around, and tried to see who it was that tossed spears at them. At first, she didn’t see anything, but then, she saw two people who were wearing these horrifying wooden masks. They were straight ahead, across the river, hiding in the thick vegetation close to the river edges.
“Face me, you cowards!” She shouted.
Afterwards, she tossed one of the broken spear tails with all her might, straight towards the humans she saw.
Other than the fact that she was enraged, she also had Dinosaur Strength, which was this world’s version of super strength, so not only did she hit one of the humans, she broke their head too, along with the wooden mask her target wore. Then, she tossed the second spear tail, and killed the other human who had been hunting them, or more accurately, hunting Bonita.
This was the first time she ever killed human beings, and common sense indicated that she should feel bad about it, but she didn’t feel a single ounce of regret, not to mention mercy. She was absolutely blinded with rage!
Anna then scanned the other side of the river, looking for other humans to essentially hunt, and she started dreading the fact that she left home unarmed. She didn’t think she’d need spears throughout her short trip, and now, as this horrid situation unfolded, she learned that leaving home unarmed was the dumbest thing she could ever do!
There weren’t any other humans across the river, but seconds later, she saw several wooden masks emerging out of the river itself! She was being approached by a total of fifteen humans, each of which had spears in their hands!
“You think you’re so tough!?” She shouted. “Fight me one on one, you fucking cowards!”
The masked people did not answer her. They were speaking with one another, in a language she could not understand. Their communication was short, and sharp. Even though she didn’t understand them, she instinctively knew they were initiating a tactical attack, or at the very least, a tactical approach!
Whatever the case might be, they weren’t willing to cooperate. Relatively, Anna wasn’t looking to drink a cup of tea with them either.
In her mind, they were so antagonized that she wanted to tear them limb by limb, cook their corpses on a fire, in front of their children, and then feed their corpses to Bonita! She was in a primal sort of rage that she may not be able to recover from. She hated their stupid, big, oval shaped masks with every fiber of her being!
Likewise, she didn’t wait for them to walk out of the river. She grabbed the biggest rock she could find, close to sixty kilos heavy, or over a hundred and thirty pounds, and then she hurled it at one of the masked people with all her might, killing them on the spot!
Initially, she wanted to throw herself into the river, and break necks, but if she did that, then Bonita might get speared several times more! She could not risk losing her pet.
Anna went ahead and grabbed another rock, and as she was about to toss it, one of her enemies was fast, or even wise enough to leap out of the river, and charge towards her. She was about to get tackled, but all of a sudden, she was shadowed by Bonita, who grabbed the attacker by the head, flung them around a couple of times, and then tossed them into the river!
In response, Anna stretched out a single, small, and very faint smile. Shortly after, she tossed the heavy rock on her hands towards another opponent who had been charging towards her.
With five of their people already killed, in a couple of the most brutal ways possible, the masked people started retreating into the river, and they were getting ready to toss their spears.
This was the moment that Anna dreaded, so she started running away from the river, knowing that Bonita would follow suit. This was the quickest, wordless command she could give, hoping to save time, and hoping to use the small hill close by to avoid the spears.
Bonita did follow suit, but as the twelve spears rained from the sky afterwards, Bonita was hit twice across her back, and the spears missed her spine by a few inches.
Anna leaped up, snapped the tails of the spears off of her pet’s back, and refused to pull the spear heads out, because she wanted to give her pet a chance to survive.
Afterwards, she shouted, “Fly away, girl! I’ll be fine on my own! Go find Jimmy, Jimmy!”
Anna pointed at a yellow plant, hoping that Bonita would understand to look for a boy with blonde hair, and thankfully, she did understand.
Bonita was hurt, she had four spear heads in her body, but she could still fly. She was a massive beast, and at the very least, she could fly even with two spear heads in her right claw, which had broken a few of her bones.
Smart, she took off, and flew towards the sea, to avoid the shooting range of the attackers, and then, she used every bit of her strength to make a sharp turn, and fly towards the rocky mountain!
Anna was jumped seconds later. She was tackled by one of the masked people, but she was far away from giving up.
She broke free, yanked the mask straight off off the attacker’s face, and punched them on the throat, breaking their neck. She killed a woman, who wore clothes almost indistinguishable from what Anna wore, and this gave her an idea.
Anna put the mask on her face, and started kicking the corpse on the face, breaking her skull, and making the corpse physically indistinguishable.
Quick as a quiver, she then grabbed the victim’s spear, and tried her best to act like a deranged, masked lunatic. She was already steaming mad, so the acting part shouldn’t be too hard for her.
“I’m going to boil you bastards alive…” She whispered.
