Chapter 174: Jimmy’s Death
Mika’s abilities weren’t limited to shooting small bolts made out of metal. She could also shoot bigger bolts.
She decided to crank her abilities up to the maximum when she saw what remained of the enemies charge towards her. Factually, she didn’t care enough to protect herself from getting overwhelmed, but she didn’t want the nine geezers behind her to get hurt. She was from a time where offering respect, and protection to elders was a great honor!
In order to prevent being surrounded, and overpowered by the thirty something enemies, she materialized a large, pointy, metal rod on her palms. It was twice the size of the average stone spear, and of course, it was many times more dangerous!
With a bit of aiming, she then used her magic to toss her solid metal spear at grand speeds! She aimed it at the enemies who had gotten too close, and killed six of them, spilling guts across the grass, until the velocity of her spear died down.
Then, she continued shooting small bolts, or nails, towards the rest of the enemies that approached. This was when the elders were supposed to step in, but most of them did not participate.
Seeing this, Eni yelled out, “What are you old farts doing? Fight, or die!”
Eni wasn’t threatening them, it was just that they still had around thirty enemies to deal with, and yet, most of the elders were not moving. Two of them joined the fight, but the other seven didn’t move a muscle. They just kept smirking, as if they were hiding a secret behind their toothless smiles.
There was no reasoning with them, so Eni started running at top speeds, picking off enemies who got too close. She decapitated them with her spear, and stole spears from the enemies too, because she kept breaking every spear she used. She was a Field Runner, after all, and any stone spear she used at top speeds broke, or more accurately, the stone head of the spear shattered into thousands of pieces.
It was fair to say that she didn’t need any help herself, but Nechi still stepped in. She didn’t want to give the enemy the slightest chance of success.
“Rot,” She cited.
As she spoke, a dark cloud shot out of her hand, and dealt with enemies who got too close. Close combat was her speciality, as her magic wasn’t long-range anyway, so as long as someone didn’t try to bash a spear through her from far away, she was capable enough to protect herself, and others, really.
The poor men who got engulfed by her dark cloud, lost their skin, muscles, bones, nerves, everything! She sent people to the afterlife, begging and screaming, wondering where their legs, arms, or chests went. She rotted her way through her barricades!
The two elders who did engage in battle to help her and her friends out, only shot fireballs. That was their ability. It wasn’t the most rare magic in the world, but it was unique, and useful nonetheless.
Mika, Eni, and Nechi had a greater appreciation for those two elders who did in fact help. As for the other seven, Eni was debating with herself, pondering if she should decapitate them as well. They were acting weird.
The safest assumption was that those seven elders knew that the battle was close to an end. They knew that the grasslands were steps away from victory, and perhaps they had a good reason to be confident? The tribe of the grasslands did not suffer a single casualty, they cut through the enemy like a knife through butter.
Well, the clones were destroyed, but the true inhabitants of the grasslands, including the pet dinosaurs, were unscathed.
When that fact was taken into consideration, one could assume that the elders simply thought that they didn’t need to lend a helping hand.
Anyway, the battle was close to being over. Some elders, and other people who did in fact contribute to the fight, sandwiched the few remaining enemies, killing them off one by one.
Jimmy approached the battlefield. Gutaxun shook the ground as he ran, and Hannah was still strapped around his back, happy as a puppy. He popped hearts from a comfortable distance of twenty meters, or sixty-five feet, finishing off the three remaining enemies.
The battle was over. Three-hundred and thirty casualties in total from both sides. The tribe of the grasslands lost clones only, and killed three-hundred men from far away tribes. The people of the grasslands won, they successfully protected their home, and their people, through one of the most violent slaughters in the history of the grasslands.
As they counted bodies, making sure that all of their enemies were dead, the defenders of the grasslands got together, and started celebrating their victory. Light cheers, soft smiles, and adrenaline-filled conversations broke out as they recalled the most eventful parts of the battle.
Jimmy patrolled the area, on top of Gutaxun’s back, making sure that every single enemy was dead. He double checked every body, and when he saw small movements, no matter how small, he had Gutaxun step on those bodies, getting rid of any inkling of risk.
“I think we got them all, Jimmy,” Hannah spoke behind him, lightly holding on to his chest, because Gutaxun’s movements were too frantic when he stepped on corpses. “We won.”
“We did…” He scratched his head, frustrated, “And we didn’t lose a single man, woman, or pet. Doesn’t that look weird to you? I feel queasy about it.”
“You feel bad that we didn’t lose anyone?” Hannah jerked her head back, bamboozled. “Are you mad?”
“No, I’m not mad,” He said, but he did not elaborate.
Jurassic Jesus’ words, specifically, “Death is Nigh” – reverberated in his head.
Moments later, Jimmy locked eyes with some elders, and felt weird as he looked at them. Their dead stare pushed his fight or flight senses to an overdrive, especially so because they were looking at him.
Then, the elders, seven of them, to be exact, stretched out a collective, synchronized smile, as if the devil was tickling their ass holes.
Jimmy looked away from the elders, and frantically looked around him. He had this strong gut feeling that his people weren’t completely safe, not yet, and he was trying to see if anyone was attacking them.
Unintentionally, he locked eyes with Eni, and then saw her running towards him, picking up on her speed.
A fraction of a second later, a wave of warm blood splattered on his face.
Shocked, he looked down, and saw Gorka, the very elderly woman with her arm pointed towards him, her five fingers spread wide like the legs of a spider. The horror on her face was evident.
Gorka didn’t attack Jimmy, she protected him. He was being hunted.
Half a second later, another wave of blood splashed him on the face, and this time, he figured out where the blood was coming from. He figured it out, because he was sure he saw a dismembered leg fly across his line of sight!
Eni then stopped in front of him, right on top of Gutaxun’s head, and yelled out, “Get down, you fucking moron!”
Just as he yelled out her warning, Jimmy’s world went dark.
His head separated from his body, and flew a few feet upwards.
Whoever killed him had been fast, too fast, and had failed to calculate Hannah’s new abilities.
When Jimmy lost his head, she felt a body clashing into her own, and it wasn’t Jimmy’s body. She was tossed several meters backwards, and hit the ground that used to be five meters below her just moments ago.
She was alright, but as she looked to her left, she saw a familiar face. She saw a Field Runner with his arms ripped off.
“No!” She yelled out, figuring out what had just happened. “Jimmy!”
