Chapter 85: Argentinosaurus
Jimmy could not believe what he was hearing. He did pick up that the hunters they recently saved were bad people, he knew that, but he didn’t expect them to be so mischievous. The whole theory sounded too random, and too sudden to be true, but yet the pieces of the puzzle were quite easy to put together.
Most of the ladies assured him that the six hunters were eyeing their dinosaurs, to the point where it couldn’t be mistaken as curiosity. They’ve all been thinking the same thing, but didn’t want to say anything unless they were absolutely certain. Icha had broken the silence, and spoke up about what was in everyone’s mind.
Icha did not care to preserve the same hunters that wished her harm, because unlike them, she did have kids to go back home to, and she’d stop at nothing to get back to them. She was tired, hungry, and angry, but she could still spot threats from a mile away. She had such instincts.
Nevertheless, this was a lot to take in, so he didn’t know what to do. A simple solution would be to kill the hunters, and get rid of any threat they posed, but that sounded too cruel of a response, and he didn’t know if the rest of the group would agree with it.
The second, and perhaps best option, was to let the hunters flee. It was unlikely for them to come back with tens of pounds of food for the team to feast on, very unlikely, so to spare themselves from the headache of chasing them down, they could just let them flee.
This was what he wanted to pitch, but he tip-toed around it, and said, “I need ideas, ladies. What do you say we do to the traitors as a punishment? Starvation, or do we lock them in a cave somewhere? This is a time sensitive question, because we still have to find the young hunters, and get them home.”
“We don’t have to do anything about the traitors, they’re probably half way down the waterfall already.” Cika said, and made the decision a lot easier for him. “But if you want to punish them quickly… Anna’s pet can fly.”
“I say we kill them.” Icha went straight out and said it. “They wanted to kill us, they wanted to leave my kids without a mother, so would it be such a bad thing to kill them?”
“Yes, it would.” Anna interrupted, as she was indirectly asked to do the killing. “You don’t kick a coward when they’re down, especially if they can’t fight you back.”
The three of them were making good points, regardless of how vastly different their points of view were. Each option sounded good, so Jimmy could not pick out a single one, and follow through with it.
Anna and Jimmy came from a different world, so they weren’t as excited to kill other human beings. They couldn’t push themselves to do so, it wasn’t in their nature, but then again, Icha did make a great point.
To back up her point, she added, “The grasslands have been untouched by other tribes for many moons, we ruled these parts, because we had many strong hunters, many strong men and women to rule it. What if those bastards run into another tribe, and tell them all about the freshly vulnerable lands, where they don’t have to compete for food? Do you think those tribes will care about the giants, if they’re sure that they can kill them?”
To seal her point tight and nicely, she then said, “We will either starve, or get killed all together. If you ask the elders, they’ll tell you the story of their fathers, and why they came up here to the grasslands to begin with. Other tribes killed our own forefathers, many moons ago, for no reason other than territory, for disputes over hunting grounds. They will do it again if they’re given the chance, Jimmy, I can tell you that for sure.”
“I’m sure we can hold our own if we get attacked, but, you do make a point.” He said. “Okay, so we kill them, ladies?”
Jimmy looked at Anna, and she nodded. She didn’t want to kill people, but when she thought about getting raided, r*ped, and killed by some random cavemen, or tribe, she got quite motivated to cooperate. There was no law system in these lands, and so war crimes were not punished, so it was best to prevent them before they could occur.
However, before Anna was about to walk towards her pet, she looked into the distance, and saw something concerning.
She saw the treacherous hunters running towards them, for one thing, which was quite surprising. It messed up with their fresh plan in unimaginable ways, because the hunters were coming from the east, from the grasslands, rather than behind them from the west, so they hadn’t tried to escape, which was quite surprising.
Either she and Jimmy had been lied to, or the hunters didn’t have the chance to flee yet.
The more concerning issue, however, was that the hunters were being chased by something. This was no mystery, she could see a large herbivore chasing behind them.
“Brace yourselves!” She shouted. “We’re in trouble!”
The herbivore in question had a long neck, like many large dinosaurs did, but there was something unique about this one. Even from a distance of one-hundred meters, or over three-hundred and twenty feet, she could see that this herbivore was far too big, and surprisingly goal oriented.
“If that’s an Argentinosaurus, I’m gonna lose my shit!” She spoke to herself. “Are we even in Argentina? For goodness’ sake.”
Seconds later, the hunters and the dinosaurs got twice as close, and when she saw the prominent, dark-red scales covering most of the herbivore’s head, and neck, she held her head in frustration.
She yelled out, “You’re not supposed to exist yet, motherfucker!”
Bonita, her pet, had already seen the large dinosaur approach, so she was alert, but when Anna yelled out in frustration, Bonita spread her wings, and ran towards her in its hind legs only, much like a baby who had just shat in its diaper. Then, Bonita started cawing profusely! She was begging Anna to climb on, so they could get out of here.
“I’m gonna go and stab that big bastard in the neck.” She said, and then started climbing on top of her pet.
“Wait!” Cika suddenly shouted, and then pointed at the Argentinosaurus. “It stopped.”
While the hunters were still fleeing for their life, they saw that the large, plant-eating beast had stopped running, and was idling by, roughly thirty meters, or one-hundred feet away. This seemed odd, and made it difficult for them to pick their next decision, but at the very least, they had some time to wake up their pet dinosaurs.
The treacherous hunters ran right past the group, right past the sleeping dinosaurs, and made their way towards the west hills. This only confirmed their cowardice, and everything the ladies had theorized. They truly were treacherous deserters, but that didn’t matter right now, as Jimmy and his friends had bigger fish to fry.
Cika wouldn’t stop rambling about the Argentinosaurus, and seconds later, they figured out why. She had seen something that everyone else had missed.
“Oh my goodness! Is that Zik?!” She exclaimed, and held her palms together, excited. “Zik!”
