Chapter 134: Experimental Button Pushing

Jimmy now knew what the first button with seemingly gibberish letters did. AAEM jacked up the subjects in the container, and it made them one-hundred percent bigger, in this case, the Compy would be a mutant god in its own community, or species. This was a useful thing, no doubt, if he could figure out what to do with hundreds of mutant Compies, and assuming that he figured out how to work the containers like a pro.

Jimmy paid no attention to the possibilities, and just wanted to figure out how to work the panel, so he could save the human in container forty-two. For that matter, he went back to the control panel, and eyeballed the second button on the line.

This one was called AAEN. At least, that’s what the faded outlines above the button cited. He pressed it, and then he pressed the button labeled with number twenty-one, where the Compy was.

Jimmy then rushed right back to the cube-like container, and saw the Compy reduce in size in real time. It took a few seconds, but the specimen was back to its normal size at the end.

This was interesting. He began to wonder if the tall, buff beauty in the container had ever been buffed like this. She seemed strong, tall, her breasts looked like they could break stone, so it definitely was a possibility. Either that, or she was naturally buff, which was all the more impressive! He was yet to find out.

Anyway, Jimmy then touched the third button on the line. This one was labeled XXL.

Instinctively he thought that this would explode the Compy in size, perhaps triple in size or more, but once he pressed it, he heard a pop. He turned around, and saw a blood cloud within the container.

“God fucking damn it!” He shouted, unable to contain his shock. “Why would they label it as XXL, and put it third in line? That’s not intuitive at all!”

Then, he took a deep breath, and spoke to himself, “Maybe the fuckers who built this place don’t know what intuition is? Are they aliens? Why haven’t I seen anyone yet?”

Jimmy was confused. He expected to run into trouble by now, especially since he was messing with a control panel that no outsider was supposed to touch. He even expected to be tackled by several inhabitants as soon as he touched a single button. Despite the fact that this rust bucket of a panel didn’t seem like the type of technology that could be rigged with silent alarms, he still expected to get in trouble, and yet he was fine, no one had bothered him.

This was when it dawned on him, “Maybe they abandoned the bunker a long time ago? It would explain why no one fixed the holes in their main entrance, the bunker door. They had plenty of time to fix it, but no one did… so… oh fuck! This bunker is all mine! Haha!”

“A jackpot as good as any,” He sighed, and finally found some relief. “Wish they didn’t take all the good gear, though. This room could be radioactive for all I know, and yet I walked in here without thinking about radiation at all… oh well, too late now. If I got hit with waves already, there’s nothing I can do about it now.”

Jimmy tried to rationalize his decisions. He wanted to stay here longer, for as long as he wanted to. After all, there was no greater will than that of a man’s, who wanted to take somebody else’s better loot. He couldn’t give up yet, not unless he was chased out.

Regarding that matter, since he lost his test subject so horribly, he had to pick another creature to test the buttons on. One that wouldn’t be a big threat if he accidentally set it free.

He was sad that he killed the Compy. It was an accident, sure, but he still took a life that didn’t deserve taking. It had been defenseless, trapped, and likely locked in there for years, perhaps even aware that it was trapped. Its reward? An unprompted death, instead of freedom.

It was sad, but he didn’t want to think about it too much. If he started getting philosophical now, he’d go down a deep spiral, perhaps worse than the debates around nihilism that he had with the feathery hyenas in his dream.

It was best to be productive for now. He picked another test subject, the smallest one he could find. This was not a dinosaur, but an alien, a blue one that seemed like an adult, but was barely a foot tall.

It looked intelligent, conscious even, so it might be unethical to experiment on it, but he’d rather keep himself safe. He’d pick a defenseless alien as a test subject over an alien gorilla any day. He wasn’t even sure if he could tame an alien gorilla, odds were that it didn’t have a brain. He didn’t know.

“Can never be too careful,” He sighed.

Afterwards, he pressed the fourth button on the line, otherwise labeled as XXMALO. It was impossible to guess what this button would do, but he pressed it anyway, and then pressed button number forty-nine.

Tired of the running, he then slowly walked to the other side of the room, to see what had happened to the small alien specimen in unit number forty-nine. To his surprise, it had opened its eyes, and it was swimming around in the container now.

Once it saw Jimmy on the other side of the glass, it swam over, and started banging his fist on the glass. It was unlikely that this tiny creature could break out of the container, so he wasn’t worried. He was even happy that he didn’t pick the alien gorilla for this part of the trial.

The alien banged on the glass, and it was trying to say something. Bubbles came out of its mouth as it banged on the glass, but he didn’t take it seriously. Intelligent or not, he wasn’t about to allow an alien to run free in his newfound bunker.

Jimmy then went back, and pressed the XXMALO button again. This in turn, put the alien to sleep, so he could continue with his experiments.

He sighed, and said, “Okay… let’s see what WLAS-I does.”
