Chapter 249: “Stick your needle in us, Jimmy”
“Interesting…” He blanked out, “Looks like I got lucky when I killed three of your people.”
Zelna had nothing to say in regards to the three people Jimmy killed, because she did not want to recall the stress those people put her through prior to their doom. She did not miss them, obviously, and right now, she wanted to focus on a more important topic.
“Make us archers fly, Jimmy,” She doubled down, “We’ll be forever grateful.”
Zelna was dedicated to following an idea that reached her ears just a couple of minutes ago, but she was hardly any convincing.
Jimmy had resisted the pleas of a naked woman before, and had adjusted his response according to what he was comfortable with, or specifically, what wouldn’t spoil the rest of his plans. Now, Zelna was a beautiful woman, but he was hardly moved by her speech, and he was no simp either, so his answer was still no.
“The syringe has been in apes and dinosaurs all day,” He answered, “You could contract a blood born disease that not even I could fix. Even if you’d end up flying, odds are the potential diseases won’t let you enjoy yourselves for long.”
“Cut the dino crap,” She answered, her words sharp for once, as if she was done begging, “If I die, I die.”
Jimmy refused again, naturally, and Zelna walked away. He thought this was the end of the topic when she walked away, but every fifteen minutes or so, other archers amongst the group of twelve kept walking over to him, and pecking at the topic.
He didn’t understand why they were so willing to fly. He could hardly link archery with such a desire, but they were insistent, and after the QT riders came back to load up for the third time, the archers were sloppy with their work.
They worked slowly, seemingly on purpose, and at this point they were throwing a tantrum.
They were lucky that they were given the space to throw a silent tantrum, because under different conditions, where Jimmy would have less time to prepare against a disaster, such as the one against the army of enemies across the mountain, he would react very differently.
Under more severe circumstances, he might go as far as banishing the archers all together, but they got lucky tonight, in the sense that his reaction to their tantrum was light. He was already under a lot of stress, but he managed to hold himself together, and simply told the archers to load up the QTs faster.
Once the riders took off for the third time, the archers kept bothering him, so he decided to make a fake deal with them. One that would spook them, hopefully.
He pitched, “Alright, I can’t guarantee that you’ll fly, but I’ll stick the syringe in you guys. However, if this works, and you end up flying, I want you to get as close to the enemy as possible, and kill them in short range. I don’t expect you to kill all of them, obviously, but we need to do a better job at scaring the shit out of them.”
“How would that work?” One of the archers asked, “Giant dinosaurs fought, and killed plenty of them head on, but they’re still marching towards us.”
“Sounds like you just want us to get hurt, Jimmy,” Zelna pointed out, “People call you their Chief, for goodness’ sake. You’re supposed to protect all of us.”
“Ideally, yes, but you’re the ones who want to take large risks just to fly.” He added, “Since you’re heading down that suicidal road, take another risk on behalf of the tribe.”
The archers were stunned. He had mixed thoughts of how his little scare tactic would play out, but it worked, apparently, as the archers seemed a lot less eager to fly. They didn’t want to take the deal, for one thing, and other than that, they were reminded of the magnitude of death itself. It could happen at any time, and if they were to follow their frantic ideas, death could befall on them sooner, rather than later, and with that considered, they backed away.
Well, most of them did, but Zelna did not back down, and made a counter offer, “How about you try it out on me alone, then? Make me fly, and if I make it to the tip of the mountain, shoot a few enemies, and make it back here in one piece, you give the rest of us the ability to fly.”
This topic went on far longer than he ever intended it to, but at this point, saying no would just make him seem stubborn, so he stuck the needle of the syringe in her, and pressed the fourth button on the control panel.
He was hoping that the transforming syringe scared the rest of the archers a bit, but other than that, he was hoping that the obviously frightening experience of flying towards the tip of the mountain, at night, to face hundreds of angry enemies would do the rest of the work. He wasn’t evil, he wasn’t trying to hurt people that he tried so hard to protect, but then again, he was hoping that Zelna came back from the trip spooked, sweaty, scared, and maybe even a little bit traumatized.
Twelve flying archers were difficult to manage, he figured, but worse than that, twelve flying, sick archers that he couldn’t heal would be even more difficult to handle, because he could lose all of them in a week, depending on if they picked up a disease or not.
Anyway, only ten seconds later, Zelna started floating, and got a layer of goosebumps across her body, huffing and puffing in excitement as if she was floating towards paradise, with the exception of taking her body along with her. She was happy.
“I hope this works out for you just like you want it to,” He said, “But if you die tonight, or get sick later, you should know that I will hold no responsibility. Now I’m not an ass, so I will try to heal you if you get sick, but let’s just hope it doesn’t have to come to that.”
“Thank you, Jimmy,” She said, and then flew towards the tip of the mountain, splitting through the air like one of her stone arrows.
