Chapter 253: Plasma Rifles Vs. Cavemen
Zelna, and the two archers who had volunteered to handle plasma guns, flew towards the tip of the mountain at top speeds, and got to the enemy in just twenty minutes.
The enemy, or what remained of them, were getting closer. They weren’t giving up, regardless of how pointless it was for them to keep pushing through the mountain, and so of course, they had to suffer for it. Some of them, at least.
The three archers tried their best to avoid hurting themselves during the trip. As they discovered, plasma guns were a lot more difficult to hold while they were flying, compared to their standard wooden bows. The guns were thicker, so they had virtually no air resistance, which in turn glued them on the chests of the archers. If they hadn’t held their guns tight, straining every muscle to keep the guns in one place during the trip, accidents would’ve been a given!
Regardless, they made it there safe and sound. To remain safe, they floated a solid one-hundred meters, or three-hundred feet above the enemy, to avoid any spear they could throw.
No normal man or woman could throw a spear this high up, so this was the only precaution they took.
“Ready?” Zelna whispered, and the two volunteers nodded.
A second later, they started blasting!
Plasma bolts of three different colors rained upon the enemy, aimed at the torches that lit the path for the enemy. The torches that were supposed to help them, and that they paid no attention to, once more gave their location away.
A united barrel of screams echoed across the mountainside once more, as the enemy became aware of the fact that they were being attacked again.
The plasma bolts looked pretty, as their red, green, and blue colors were rich, almost as if they were rich in life, but the fact of the matter was that the plasma bolts burned through flesh like a knife through butter!
The archers had plasma rifles on them, semi-automatic, and although these rifles were small enough for them to control without hurting themselves, the damage they caused was extraordinary!
People lost their heads and arms in a snap! There was no avoiding the bolt if it was aimed towards a particular target.
Those who were hit on the chest, either had large holes right where they were shot!
Those who were hit in a near perfectly vertical manner, had their faces, abdomen, and even the tips of their ribcages shaved off!
Worse yet, the heat of the plasma bolt was so intense, that those victims who were hit vertically, got their fresh wounds sealed by the heat! They looked as if a clumsy, planet sized surgeon had messed up their surgery. Faceless and disgusting.
The plasma rifles kept wailing on the enemy, and unlike normal rifles, they did not have to be reloaded.
The semi-automatic bursts had a bit of a kickback, but other than pushing the archers a foot or so backwards, it was easy to control them. They were flying, after all, so it wasn’t like they had their backs against the wall.
Anyway, as the enemy kept hooting and hollering, losing one man after the other, and women alike, the archers ran out of ammo. Their plasma rifles ran out of charge, but this did not bother them. They were satisfied with the results.
Each semi-automatic burst let out four plasma blasts, and the charge ran out after twenty blasts. It did seem short, and considering that each burst hit two people at most, the damage the row of deaths the archers caused seemed minimal at first, but then they accumulated their kills.
“I killed thirty, I think.” Zelna said, as they disappeared into the mountainside, heading back to the Arse-crack of the mountain.
“Me too,” Another archer, a woman, said.
“I killed twenty five…” The third one added, “Good enough.”
“Yes,” Zelna said, “Eighty five less morons to worry about. Jimmy will be pleased.”
The archers regrouped with Jimmy and the rest shortly after, and her prediction was right. Jimmy was pleased.
“We can handle three-hundred cavemen,” He said, “I hope.”
Afterwards, he asked, “How long did it take until your guns ran out of charge?”
“Your guns,” She corrected, “Here, take them. We’re archers, we don’t need fancy weapons.”
The three archers then handed the guns over, but Zelna saw that Jimmy was itching for an answer to his question. He didn’t care if they held a rock, or a cannon.
So, she answered, “The guns shot… what are its shots called? They’re not rocks, right?”
“Plasma bolts,” Anna spoke up from a distance, “They’re called plasma bolts.”
“Sure,” Zelna sighed, “When we pressed the trigger, the gun shot four plasma butts. We did that about twenty times.”
“Bolts…” Anna held her head, but she kept her voice low, as she didn’t care to correct Zelna again. “I guess the saying is true. Monkeys with guns are actually dangerous.”
Jimmy wanted to laugh, he could use a break after being up for twenty-three hours, but he tried to stay focused. Right now, he had to do everything in power to wrap up this tactical battle with a not-so-tactical approach, and end it for good.
“So the rifles have twenty charges on them…” He rubbed his chin. “How useless.”
Afterwards, he walked towards Anna, and asked her, “How did you charge the guns? I didn’t have the chance to ask you.”
“There was a charging station in the armory,” She answered. “It took about five minutes to charge every gun… well, except for the cannons. They took ten minutes.”
“And I’m assuming there is no way to charge them anywhere outside of the bunker?” He followed along.
“No…” She answered.
“Of course…” He sighed, “For intelligent aliens, they sure as hell were stupid. Why would they design a gun that only lasts twenty charges? That shit wouldn’t even get them to the grasslands if they went on foot.”
“I don’t think they did much walking,” She added, “I mean, we saw them, they were big, but they were probably not dumb enough to explore on foot. They flew.”
“You have a point,” He said, “Are our people okay? I haven’t had the time to figure out why a god damn platypus-faced motherfucker was in our bunker.”
“They’re fine,” She nodded, “I checked the bunker door before I left. You messed up the door pretty badly, so I don’t think a simple button push will get it to open.”
“Right,” He sighed in relief, “We gotta check the bunker once we end this fight. I don’t know why that alien was there, maybe they do routine checks in their bunkers every few years? Either way, we killed one of them, so we have to assume that more will come.”
“Yeah…” She looked at the sky, “They built that tin-can. They will want it back.”
It was overwhelming to think of yet another problem, or potential battle right now, since they were already in the middle of a battle, or towards the end of it at least. For the sake of his sanity, Jimmy stopped thinking about that alien, and focused on the issue at hand.
He walked towards the unit of seventeen shooters who still had a charge in their guns, and wanted to prepare them. That being, he wanted them to be even more cautious than he and Anna already prompted them to be.
“Try not to miss when you shoot, guys.” He said, “Our guns should last us long enough to kill all three-hundred of the fuckass, hairy bastards who survived our attacks until now, but, you know, if you miss half of your shots we won’t make it far.”
Furthermore, he added, “We blocked the path, so the enemy shouldn’t be able to jump past the blockade, not right away, at least, so once they’re here, we have some time to make every shot count.”
The unit of shooters simply nodded along. They were tired, and the short nap they took earlier on made them even drowsier, since they had been interrupted during their REM sleep, but they used their tiredness to their advantage. They were eager to end this battle now, so they could go back to sleep afterwards.
“It would be a pain in the ass to get all of you to safety, so let’s hope we don’t have to result in that.” He added, “I’m telling you again, make every shot count.”
Jimmy wasn’t much of a motivational speaker. He just wanted to guide his people, help them learn how to keep themselves from dying. He knew for a fact that they were getting cocky, on account to the fact that Jimmy managed to figure out how to fight off such a large wave of enemies, but he knew how dangerous the confidence of his troops could be.
After all, the enemy was confident as well, but it didn’t get them far tonight. Confidence should always be met with competence.
Anyway, Jimmy looked at the Arse-crack of the Mountain, and mumbled, “Poke your heads out already, you bastards. We’re past sunrise already, we won’t miss our shots.”
