Chapter 247: Should a 170 ton Argentinosaurus fly?

The battle between the clones and the enemy of what used to be a thousand men and women, was over.

The result was bloody, it was horrendous, and both sides suffered casualties, however, even though that particular battle was over, the war was not.

Hell, even the battle between the first wave and the tribe of the rocky mountains wasn’t over. The tribe hasn’t made any direct contact with the enemy, in any way, shape, or form.

Jimmy insisted on keeping his distance, and as his mother, Lasra, landed in front of him to make a status report, he was all the more convinced for his tribe to keep their distance from the enemy for as long as possible!

“The flying dinos clawed half of them down,” She said as she approached, “But the enemy isn’t stopping. It’s hard to see them in the dark, but judging from the way their torches are moving, they could be running towards us right now.”

“So they’re done walking, huh?” He sighed, “Doesn’t matter. It won’t make much of a difference anyway.”

In the spirit of keeping their distance away from the enemy, Jimmy kept Rampage and Zik rather busy.

Out of all the dinosaurs that the tribe had at their disposal, be it beloved pets, or the clones they used as cannon fodder, Rampage, the monstrous Argentinosaurus, was the biggest amongst them. He may even be the biggest dinosaur in the world right now, and Jimmy made sure to use that to the tribe’s advantage.

The rocky mountains, being rocky, had a lot of boulders on them. It was supposed to.

With little guidance, Zik got his pet, Rampage, to grab a hold of massive boulders, most of them weighing around three-tons, and either hurling them, or placing them across the pathway that pierced through the mountainside.

They blocked the path, starting from the fine line where the rest of the mountain was cut away, or blockaded by large, tall hills.

The steel-coated path was blocked by around three hundred feet, or a hundred meters, so now, the enemy had two options if they were to cross the thick, long barricade.

They could climb over it, which was the most sensible option, though it would take a lot of time.

Or, they could avoid the blockade in general, and parkour their way across the tall hills surrounding the blockade, which was significantly more dangerous, but could give ranged shooters within the remaining enemy army a decent chance to attack from afar.

Either way, Jimmy bought himself some more time. He was even ashamed that he hadn’t thought about it sooner.

’I guess it’s easy to make plans when you know you’re gonna win,’ He thought.

Anyway, Zik walked towards him as Jim and his mother talked about the enemy, and even within the dark depth of the night, Jimmy could tell that Zik had something to say. He could tell based on the way he walked.

“This may not be the best time to pitch this, but what if you get my Rampage to fly?” He pitched, “We can stuff the shooters and archers on Rampage’s back, and have him fly over the mountain. He should keep everyone safe.”

“Unless someone falls off,” Lasra pointed out, “Flying isn’t as easy as it looks. George the Scourge still surprises me now and again.”

“George the Scourge…” Jimmy smiled, “That has to be the most badass name I ever heard of.”

“Thank you,” She nodded, “He likes to torture leaf chewers too damn often, even if he doesn’t want to eat them. He is a scourge.”

Seeing that the topic slipped away from them, Zik waved his torch around, and said, “So we’re not doing my thing?”

“No,” He shook his head, “My mother is right, people can fall off. Rampage may be able to ignore one or two plasma guns, but when we get twenty of them shooting all together, he might get spooked, start shaking, or even spin mid air. One simple mistake like that, and we’d be killing thirty-two people.”

Seeing that Zik wasn’t happy, Jimmy then had to add, “Trust me, I’d love to experiment with Rampage, the biggest dinosaur ever… hell, I even want to make him bigger by three scales, just to see if his weight could break the mountain, but you know it’s not safe. The syringe… the technology in my hands worked well on clones, but why risk using it on the pets we love?”

“Necessity,” Zik said, though, for once he was calm, or calmer than usual. “Back in the day, we used to fish because it was easier, so it became a necessity. If we got Rampage to fly, we could end this bullshit before the enemy even gets here.”

“Making Rampage fly is far from necessary,” He said, “Don’t worry, we won already.”

Although he seemed calm, the advantage that Zik wanted to build on behalf of the tribe was inherently frantic. It was crazy, and it was incredibly risky, but he was willing to take risks just to give the enemy a horrendous death, perhaps even worse than what they deserve.

Thankfully, Jimmy was here to be the voice of reason, and the second phase of his battle plan was a lot more simple. It involved rocks, fist-sized rocks, rather than the boulders they had been working with during the past hour.

He turned to his mother, and said, “Go find the rest of the QT riders, fill the leather tarps with rocks, and you know the rest. Let’s make sure we kill as many of them as we can before they get anywhere close to us.”

“I hope we have enough time,” She said, “You should’ve told me this earlier.”

“We have plenty of time, don’t worry,” He said, “Now go, mother, and try your best to aim at the enemy. Hitting them while they’re stuffed in that damned path shouldn’t be as easy, but if we can hit them a couple of times, they might just flee this time.”
