Chapter 199: Rampage Vs. Gutaxun
Jimmy and Eni did the deed, accomplished ’the planting of the seed’ and as of now they were free to go on with the rest of their day. They found common grounds, meaning that they both wanted children, and so, they were ready to spend the winter with Eni pregnant, expecting.
Eni was a healthy young woman, and after he dropped that huge load inside of her, the odds of her getting pregnant were nearly guaranteed. She was twenty-two years old, so in any universe, it was the perfect time for her to be with child.
To be sure that she’ll get pregnant, Jimmy secretly scanned her body. He was no doctor, he was no obstetrician, but he still tapped into her heartbeat, and observed her ovaries to check how healthy they were.
Jimmy barely knew what he was looking at, but over the past few weeks, he had developed a mild sense in regards to when any part of a human being was sick. He healed enough people to develop a subconscious feeling, an alarm of sorts, that would tell him if the person he was ’scanning’ was sick.
Since the alarm didn’t go off while he scanned Eni, even when he focused all of his attention on her ovaries, he came to the conclusion that Eni was completely healthy. She was a healthy young woman.
He was relieved, because he had a feeling that if she could not get pregnant due to some health issue, it would break her heart far beyond what he was capable of handling. He wouldn’t be able to console her, and quite the opposite, as the tribe’s healer, she would expect him to ’fix her’ regardless of the fact that he barely had a clue of how a woman’s reproductive system worked.
Pressure like that would tear them apart even if neither of them intended it. Even if he could help her, in the end, they wouldn’t be as close as they were now.
He was happy that she was healthy, but then again, if she did face any challenges, he would surely step in and try to fix it. He made a promise to her, and he intended on keeping that promise, because even if he stepped into her potential problems not knowing anything about reproduction, he would grind through days, or maybe even weeks of work just to ensure that she didn’t miscarriage, or anything of that equivalent. He cared about her enough to protect her feelings and her health, even if mother nature, or biology itself insisted otherwise.
Anyway, after they did the deed and cleaned up, they continued their trip down the mountainside.
Gutaxun was fast, and he was well-fed too, as he and the other pet dinosaurs hunted their food on their own even if their masters didn’t tell them to, and for that matter, he slid down the mountainside, shaking the ground as he ran, and made it to the grasslands in less than two hours.
Come to think of it, he made it down there in record time because he was competitive. He didn’t like the fact that Rampage, a thirty meter, or nearly one-hundred foot tall dinosaur was outrunning him, so he kept running at full speed, hoping to keep up, or perhaps even cross the giant dinosaur.
It may sound stupid to compete with a dinosaur that was several times his size in all aspects, but he competed nonetheless. Gutaxun had an ego bigger than his own body size, which was impressive on account to the fact that he was five-meters tall, or just over sixteen feet tall to the hip. No ego should be that big.
Gutaxun kept up with Rampage, mostly, but Jimmy and Eni had to hold on tight as to not fall off. They even had to hold on while they were having sex, which was quite difficult, as even though they had been laying down, both of them had been weak to the knees for a solid half hour, vulnerable to falling off at any time.
It was tough, but they made it down to the grasslands in one piece. Thankfully, Rampage slowed down once he made it to the grasslands, so Gutaxun did the same, and was finally able to catch his breath.
The river was a few kilometers westward, so even Rampage didn’t see the need to rush. He was calculative.
“So you want to dump those… odd animals in the river?” Eni asked. “How will that stop the enemy from attacking us?”
“The snakes?” He followed along, “Oh, they’re gonna swim down the river, towards the west hills, and attack the enemy from within the comfort of their own homes.”
“But there are only five snakes,” She pointed out. “Wouldn’t you need more snakes if you want to kill a lot of them?”
“Ideally yes, but I didn’t want to spend too much mana on the snakes.” He answered. “The idea is to keep the enemy busy for a while, a few days, maybe, so I can make more Compy clones. Hell, if I only had one week, erg, seven moons of time to make more Compy clones, then it wouldn’t matter if the enemy stepped into our lands with fifty men, or five hundred men. The clones will kill them all.”
Eni was happy that he was sharing his plan with her. Typically he didn’t talk much about his plans with anyone else other than Anna, so she was happy to be up-to-date for once, but it took her very little time to figure out the bad side, or specifically, the dark side of his recent plan. She started to understand why he preferred to share his plans with Anna, compared to everyone else.
She got a bit emotional, and so she didn’t hesitate to point out what she thought was ’wrong’ about his plan, “But won’t the snakes eat mothers, and their children as well? They’re animals, so… they can’t tell the difference between a man and a child. Right?”
“Yeah… the snakes will eat everything in sight.” He admitted. “It’s not pretty, it’s wrong, I know that, but the west hills were the ones that started the war, not me. Let’s not forget, if it wasn’t for Hannah, we’d all be dead right now. Men, women, children, the elders, all of us, we’d be all dead. Those bastards were at our doorstep a few moons ago, ready to kill us all, so I’m past the fact of what’s moral and what isn’t.”
Eni did not say another word for two whole minutes. She pondered over what he said, and she was upset by the fact that he was absolutely right. His logic was foolproof, and in her mind, as she thought the matter over, she pictured the Massacre of the Giant’s Ditch.
She came to the conclusion that what the enemy was doing now, was barely different from what the giants did to her people that day. They’re killing for the sake of killing, for one thing, but also to expand their territory. No matter the perspective, she could not tie two reasons together that would excuse the actions of the enemy.
For that matter, she finally added, “Let’s just hope the war ends soon. The enemy must’ve realized by now that there’s no beating us.”
“I wish,” He chuckled. “They’re as dumb today as they were yesterday. I mean, they sent three-hundred men and women to their death a few days ago just so they could get to me, and kill me. My guess is that an even bigger army will try to invade us soon, but the war should be over once I send that army down to the depths of hell.”
“All the tribes of the west hills will be gone… dead…” She added, “But maybe that’s the price of peace?”
“It is,” He said, “But the tribes won’t be entirely gone. Plenty of women, children, and elders will come to us seeking shelter, and I’d be happy to take them in. We lost many men of our own, many hunters, so maybe there is some benefit to this stupid war.”
“The grasslands will come out stronger than ever,” She said, trying to cheer herself up. “I’m glad you’re our Chief. If you weren’t here, we’d all be dead already.”
The positives and negatives of war weren’t easy to stomach. Yet, talking about it was many times easier to stomach compared to actually getting one’s hands bloody.
War was not for the weak, and odds were that even half of the men and women across the enemy’s side did not want to participate, but that didn’t matter. Only the winner had the privilege of pondering over their deeds after the war, and debate if what they were doing was wrong or right. Jimmy did not intend to lose, so debates like this one will become common for a while.
Anyway, they made it to the river in no time, but for the sake of making the trip down to the west hills easier for the snakes, Jimmy communicated with Zik, from tens of feet away, shouting out his requests.
“Let’s get them further down the river!” He shouted out, “We gotta get them close to the west hills, and save them the trouble of fighting big ass crocs!”
“Alright!” Zik shouted back, and then smacked Rampage on the neck, changing his course, a sharp left. “Easy boy…”
