Chapter 223: EVEN EVEN even more Invaders!
“Watch your tone, boy,” Gnegor said, “Your grandparents used to be elders as well, me and your mother are a few summers away from becoming elders ourselves. Us old folk built the home you live in, and we raised you to a man. We did our work in our time, and the elders did their work many summers before you were even born! They’ve earned their keep, they’ve put in the work, and now it’s your time.”
“Well, that’s fair,” His tone switched, sarcastic, his hand still bloody, and practically maimed, “Our elders swung spears around, and humped dinosaurs in their free time, but I’m supposed to figure out how to fight off a mass invasion? Do you even understand what kind of trouble we’re in?”
“Watch your tone, I’m not going to tell you again,” Gnegor’s voice lowered, his chest cocked forward, his demeanor threatening. “Either you pull yourself together right now, or piss off. If you don’t want to fight, then we’ll fight on our own.”
“Go easy on him,” Lasra pulled her husband away, “It’s been a long day.”
Jimmy simply walked away from the conversation, again. He did not want to argue with a man who seemed to have traditional values. A caveman having traditional values seemed funny, but deep down, he knew that debating on the matter would be a lost cause, and an utter waste of time as good as any. He did not care to waste his time on his father right now, because he was sure that if he kept the conversation going, it would likely escalate into a fist fight, which was not only weird, but it would also be an utter waste of time!
The realization that the most powerful members of his tribe were useless, or at least, useless unless he spent a great deal of effort convincing them to fight, hit him like a truck. He knew that the elders liked to keep to themselves, they liked their peace, but he did not expect them to value their short-lived peace above their very lives! It did not make sense to him, and it made even less sense for someone to defend the action of the elders!
If Zik was here, he’d cuss the elders forwards and backwards, but he was occupied with the younglings inside, and besides, Jimmy could not afford another distraction right now. He already had a big, hairy man ready to yell about the elders.
Jimmy tried to focus, so he finally healed his hand, and sat on the rocks, legs crossed, toying around with a small pebble.
The fact that over four-hundred people had walked over the tail of the mountainside, which was one-hundred miles, or one-hundred and sixty kilometers away from their home cavern, was a kick in the nuts for sure, but as Gnegor put it, they were at least four days away, likely five.
In other words, Jimmy had five days to deal with them, so instead, he focused his attention on the brigade that marched their way here from the forest. That brigade was closer, an estimated three days away.
“Assuming those hairy bastards don’t waste time banding together, we can spam them with a bunch of ’raining rocks’ a few times. Hopefully that’ll wipe them out, so we don’t have to use our Compy clones on them.” He plotted, “God damn… I never thought that fighting three-hundred damn cavemen would be the easiest part of my day, but here we fucking are…”
Jimmy was talking to himself, basically, and he didn’t stop there, as he further plotted, “If we kill those damned forest people with rocks, I can get around 150 Compy clones in three days, and sick them on the bastards from the tail of the mountain. Yeah… sounds simple enough, we still have a head start, as long as I don’t have to waste all my clones on the damn forest people.”
The hundreds of people that were all the way on the edge of the grasslands were not a problem at all. He didn’t even consider them a threat right now, especially since it would take them over a week to get anywhere close to the rocky mountains. A lot of things could happen by then, and to his luck, the three massive waves of enemies were very far away from each other, so he could use the gaps between the attacks to either make more clones, or figure out new ways to fight the enemy.
When he thought the matter over, he took a deep breath, and finally managed to relax. He was dealing with over a thousand invaders, which in this case was more of an army, rather than a mere brigade of cavemen, but he was calm. He managed to lay out a decent plan, and now he walked towards the cavern, ready to pull through with his plan.
He walked straight past his father, and spoke to his mother, “Make sure that at least one of you patrol the sky tonight. Let’s try our best to avoid a surprise attack, okay? Elders or not, I’ll handle the rest.”
Lasra nodded, she was cooperative. Gnegor did not speak, but he had a smile on his face. Inwardly, he was more proud of his son than he had ever been, as the topics regarding the elders aside, he was happy that his son was rising to the challenge, regardless of how unfair the challenge might be for him, and everyone involved. He was happy that Jimmy manned up, and was ready to do what no one else could!
However, before Jimmy could step into the cavern, he heard someone landing nearby.
He turned around, and saw Anna and Gaark climb down from their pet QTs. Judging from the bulge on the leather sacks the QTs were carrying, the hunt for salt was successful, and so the tribe could finally start putting salt on the tons of crocodile meat that Gutaxun and Rampage had brought from the grasslands.
He was happy before he even spoke to them, but as they got closer, there was an evident, horrific look on their faces!
“Jimmy…” Anna leaped over, and hugged him, “I missed you…”
“I missed you too,” He embraced the hug, “I was hoping that you guys didn’t get lost or something.”
“We didn’t… but I don’t know if that’s such a good thing.” She pulled away from the hug, “We saw an army, Jimmy, maybe over a thousand men? They’re coming for us from behind the mountain.”
“Of course,” He looked at the sky, rolled his eyes, heaved out a deep, stressful sigh, and was ready to crash out for the second time. “Of fucking course!”
