Chapter 102: Comeback

The woman being displayed on the TV screen could be seen walking into a building. She was elegantly dressed in a long white dress with a halter neck style. The back of the dress flowed behind her making her look like a princess in royal attire.

When the woman waved, she seemed to glow brighter than Lilian’s eyes remembered.

She clenched her hands into fists and watched as Celine stood at the podium turning to address the crowd.

“It has taken me five years to address a misunderstanding, five years of a girl, terrified for her safety so she did the only thing she could when no one would give her a listening ear, she went into hiding.

“It pains me to realize that a young woman working in entertainment can easily be victimized by the whole world based on lies and rumors. I left the country when things became overwhelming, I admit it was the coward’s way out, but a woman being criticized by the whole world, stoned with rotten eggs when she steps out of her home and being sent death threats right to her doorstep. Anyone would choose their own safety.”

There were pictures being shown on the screen at this moment, Celine being surrounded by several people who looked like an angry mob. These pictures had been buried and only just revealed now, it sparked some sympathy in the hearts of people watching. Even if she were as bad as the rumors back then said, no one deserved to be threatened and hurt so publicly.

Not to mention a long time after Celine left and the rumors had died down, some of her loyal fans had dug into the rumor right to it’s very source and it had been revealed that those rumors came from questionable sources, IP addresses that could not be traced and a few of them that were traced led to a shady underworld organization called The Black Market, where morally deranged people could be hired to ruin someone else.

This single IP address trace had been used as an evidence that those sudden rumors had questionable origins, since it came from the black market it only meant one thing… someone had deliberately tried to ruin Celine.

The world was already apologetic even before Celine’s return.

“Miss Roberts, what happened five years ago was truly unfortunate. It’s clear that someone deliberately tried to ruin your reputation, and for that all of us at the media want to offer a huge apology to you.”

Celine showed a light smile as she replied.

“What happened in the past, is already gone, there’s no need to continue dwelling on it. But the purpose of this press conference is to announce my return to entertainment. I will no longer be defined by lies from the past, I want to urge anyone watching to always stand for the truth and ensure that innocent people won’t be dragged through baseless accusations.”

The conference came to an end Celine stepped down the podium at the very same moment a car stopped right outside the building where the press conference was taking place. This sudden arrival attracted looks of curiosity as a beautiful woman stepped out of the car.

Her legs were long and lean, and she walked with the effortless grace of a runway model, because she was a runway model.

“It’s Claudia!” Someone exclaimed and they immediately began to clear a path for her as she headed straight to Celine.

The scandal five years ago had a lot to do with Claudia, after all her husband had been involved. The man had been accused of cheating and being among the men to sleep with his co-star Celine.

Claudia’s sudden arrival here…was a big drama going to happen?

The media prepared their cameras, ready to capture any catchy interaction that might occur between these two women here today.

Claudia must definitely be angry that her husband and herself were dragged into Celine’s scandal, while Celine must be angry that she had been falsely accused.

Everyone noticed the crisp way Claudia approached Celine, her expression unfathomable to the crowd.

Claudia stepped up to the podium after hugging Celine, addressing the press.

“What happened to Miss Roberts is an injustice that needs to be addressed. Till this day, the public disregards the safety of an innocent woman if she is in the media. Money and fame does not define a person’s character, and their fame doesn’t make them immune to harm. My husband’s name was sullied, Celine’s name was sullied, I think it’s time the world begins to know that behind the glamor of the industry, there are terrible people too who would go to far lengths to ruin someone else. Someone targeted Celine, and I hope whoever they are, they get exposed and the punishment they rightfully deserve.”

Having said all that, Claudia turned to Celine with an apologetic smile. “Celine, I’m sorry. Please know that Ethan and I will be rooting for you. We’ll be standing firmly behind you. Ethan and I plan to throw a little party in honor of your return, we hope you accept our humblest apologies for all the humiliation you received because of my husband’s name.”

There was a warm and friendly air between the two women that many began to ship them together as the best of friends.

The screen changed to show clips of Celine’s past movies, highlighting her wins creating a feeling of nostalgia in people’s minds making them look forward to her upcoming projects now that she had officially returned to the entertainment industry.

Lilian watched it all unfold, her fisted hands trembling at her sides.

“No, this can’t be happening! How did they clear her name so easily?!” Lilian bellowed frightening her assistant.

“Time has passed and they have proven her innocence. But don’t worry Lily, she just came back into the industry she can never take your spot. Also, a woman who hasn’t played a role in five years, no one would hire her, at most she’s only going to get a side role. People might feel bad for her because the scandal before was just a bunch of lies but that doesn’t change anything, her career can never be the same again.” Lilian’s assistant explained hastily to ease the anger oozing out of Lilian, and she was glad to realize that her words were working.

Lilian’s clenched fists suddenly loosened.

That was right, Celine couldn’t make a comeback just like that. It would be impossible for her to get her former position again.

The spotlight was hers now and it would continue to be hers, nothing could change that.
