Chapter 158: DNA Test

Celine returned to her packing when Natalia left the room, but her mind was occupied by a thousand thoughts at once, she couldn’t focus on one, until she heard Leah’s little voice cut through her thoughts with another question again,

“Mommy, do you really not like my Daddy anymore?” Leah was really curious about this specific question, so she asked it openly when she was alone with her mother again.

Celine returned to Leah’s side, looking her in the eyes with a complicated expression, “Can I tell you a secret?”

Leah nodded eagerly, “Yes, you can tell me anything Mommy!”

Celine hesitated for a second before saying, “The truth is…I really like your Daddy a lot, and I…I really want to be with him.” Her words came out with a sigh, for the first time she was openly admitting her feelings out loud. For the first time, she was opening up about the fact that this was what her heart longed for without her feeling scared of what might happen.

Leah brightened up as she heard that, a wide smile lifting her adorable cheeks.

She had always envied others who had a complete family, if her mother and her real father were to reunite, she and Leo could be like other kids who had a full, complete family as well.

Celine had a contemplating look in her eyes for a while then she finally said, “How about this…after I get back from this trip, I’ll let you meet your…your father, is that okay?” This was the first time she was openly giving her kids the hope of meeting their father, but she couldn’t force someone else on them when secretly in their hearts, they longer for their own biological father.

“Really, I can meet him?” The little girl looked evidently excited.

“Yes, you can, but you have to keep this between us alright? Don’t tell Leo about it yet, when I get back you can finally meet your father, and then we’re going to ask him…if he wants us or not.”

“Alright Mommy, I won’t tell anyone.”

Celine smiled lightly at the anticipating look in her daughter’s eyes, she had already promised herself to marry another, but what she wanted to know was…if he truly didn’t want them, if he truly didn’t want…her.

Did he really change his mind from marrying Erica because of her? Natalia had planted the idea in her mind and she couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Her heart raced at the thought of speaking to him, but she knew that before taking the biggest decision of her life and fully settling down with Julian, she needed to break every wall she had put up with Tristan and tell him everything straight up, about the kids, and about…her feelings for him. And if he told her to her face that he wanted nothing with her or their children, she would finally let go, she would let go without ever looking back.

Genevieve drove into Tristan’s mansion that morning, wanting to spend some time with him, only to be told by the guards that he had just left on a business trip.

She sighed dejectedly, as she plopped onto the plush black couch in the living room. She hadn’t seen him for days now, he didn’t show up at his wedding with Erica, and he never returned to his mansion, now that he did, she didn’t get to see him before he suddenly left on a business trip.

It seemed her suspicion was right, her brother indeed had someone else in his heart, he had chosen to give up his company so he wouldn’t be tied in marriage to a woman his heart didn’t want.

Genevieve walked the halls of his empty home, her heart tightening. There were no memories in this home, no warmth, every wall and every room seemed to carry the deep loneliness of a man who chose to isolate himself from others.

Would things really change? It had been years and he was still holding onto that pain and keeping other people away.

After being at his home for quite a while, Eve decided to leave, but at that very moment, one of the guards approached her.

“Madam, a package just arrived for the boss.” The guard said, handing her a sealed envelope.

“Alright, I’ll keep it for him.” She replied taking the envelope to inspect it curiously.

There was a blue seal with the name L.N Laboratory, results for DNA testing.

Eve frowned, “DNA test? Why did Tristan get a DNA test?” She wondered, her hand reaching for the seal to tear it open but she stopped herself.

“No matter how curious you are, you can’t poke into your brother’s privacy Eve.” She scolded herself, deciding to keep her curiosity In check. She went back inside, going up to the master bedroom, then gently dropped the envelope on his nightstand where he could see it the moment he returned.

As she walked to the door she paused, her curiosity causing her to look back. She truly wondered what sort of DNA test it was and why her brother had done it, but in the end she clamped down her curiosity again, and left the estate, the DNA test result sitting coldly on the nightstand in the quiet room.

Long, golden blonde hair billowed in the wind, she grabbed a scrunchie from her purse and pulled her hair up in a ponytail just as a stewardess approached her to help her with her luggage on the company’s private plane.

“Celine!” Someone called her name with so much bright enthusiasm she already knew who it was even before lifting her head to look. “You’re here! I’ve been waiting all along for you to arrive.”

At Ryan’s sharp and enthused voice, Celine didn’t notice a certain someone who had just been about to step into the plane pause his steps abruptly.

A frown drew his brows together as he wondered if he had heard his cousin right. Did he just call the name… Celine?

Why would she be here when they were going on a business trip? She clearly wasn’t among the employees designated to go on this trip.

Tristan wanted to confirm that he’d thought wrong or perhaps just heard the wrong name, not until he stepped into the plane to catch a sight of her, her wavy blonde strands were tied up in a ponytail, a light smile on her face, she looked enchanting that for a moment he couldn’t look away, even as a bitter stuffiness in his chest assaulted him at the fact that her attention was entirely on the person in front of her. She wasn’t looking in his direction, not when she was too engrossed speaking to his cousin who immediately began to lead her towards a so called seat he had reserved for her.

“What the hell is she doing here Kaleb?” Tristan asked grimly.

Kaleb who had begun to chant his final prayers before he would be sent off to his grave was jolted by the question, was it too late to repent for not telling his boss that he had actually been the one to approve the list of people going on this trip, and he had very cunningly sealed his mouth when he saw that Ryan had added her to the list?

“Yes, president, it…erm, it seems miss Roberts will be coming with us on this trip. Kaleb managed to say despite how nervous he was feeling.

Kaleb had been overjoyed when the president refused to show up to that wedding with Erica. He had thought; finally! The boss is going to get his woman, only for the man to continue his routine of torturing every employee at the company with too much work, not getting any rest for himself, nor letting any employee rest either.

The excitement for his wedding that had filled the whole company one moment had seemed to become a grim funeral when the president stormed in one morning with new projects and deadlines no one could keep up with.

Kaleb could only sigh, shaking his head. This man…he just couldn’t understand him.

It was simple, like a kid putting and and one together to make two; you love a woman, walk up to her, snatch her up and make her yours, but in the president’s case there was resistance, a sharp stubborn resistance of him not wanting to cave to his own feelings…that had made Kaleb instantly approve the list when he saw Celine’s name. Though this might lead him to an early grave, he’d like to see the president try and avoid her now when he would have to see her constantly for the next few days.

“Which idiot arranged that, why wasn’t I informed?” Tristan’s stormy eyes were now fixed onto Kaleb making him want to shrink and cower.
