Chapter 66: Destiny

Celine’s fingers tightened around the stem of her water glass as she quickly looked away from the man’s direction, her heart hammering audibly in her ears.

It really was him!

How was it that the very first time she went out after returning to the city, she would run into him?

She suddenly remembered something Natalia had said.

’Neville is a huge city, and you and Mr Grayson can live in it and never see each other again but still, anything can happen…’

Anything can happen, Natalia had said, but Celine hadn’t thought that the notion of anything happening would be this soon.

Squeals and excited voices filled the restaurant as many people rushed to the direction of Tristan Grayson, flashes of cameras indicating they were taking pictures of him but the guards around him effectively held them off.

“…I think our first approach should be right here. Lockwood square, Silverline owns sixty five percent of every building in this square, if we get our hands on…” Gregory was saying when he noticed Celine’s dazed expression, she seemed lost and unfocused on the discussion they were having in this moment. He immediately tried to draw her attention back.

“Miss Roberts?”

The man’s voice sounded like a distant echo, Celine’s eyes were glued to the tycoon flanked by a crowd of people trying to get close to him and guards keeping them under control.

’I want to have you again, Celine. Over and over again.’ a memory replayed in her head. A memory that showed rumpled sheets, skin against skin, heat rising and invisible flames of desire…scorching.

“Miss Roberts.” This time she was startled at Gregory’s voice clearly sounding close to her as he’d leaned over to get her attention.

“Are you alright?” Gregory asked. Her expression had changed so very quickly in a short amount of time.

She looked pale and almost nervous one minute and then red and almost blushing the next minute. One would wonder if she were suddenly feeling sick.

“I’m alright. Please continue.” Though she tried to keep her mind focused on the task at hand, her mind still ended up drifting away to something Natalia said…

’…if you know Neville history you would know that the Blakewood family rules states that the firstborn kids of each generation will automatically be heirs, which means your kids are the next generation heirs of the Blakewood empire. If Tristan Grayson himself doesn’t remember you, the minute the Blakewood family gets a whiff of their blood, they’re going to come for the twins Celine and you won’t be able to stop them from taking the kids away.’

Her stomach twisted with a rush of anxiety.

No matter what, neither Tristan nor any members of his family should come to know about Leo and Leah.

Celine’s gaze no longer drifted towards the man’s direction, she wasn’t scared or nervous that he would see her because she knew he no longer remembered her and even if he did, the deal they’d made to never see each other again would stop him from acknowledging her presence or her existence around him.

What happened between them that night five years ago was nothing but something that should be forgotten after all.

It was best this way.

She didn’t regret that night, not even for a second. That night had given her the most precious jewels, her children and no one could take them away from her.

Tristan walked into the private room in the restaurant and the buzzing noise outside was suddenly silenced. He accepted a glass of sparkling water handed to him by the sommelier.

“Mr Grayson, it’s an honor to have you here.”

Tristan nodded to the representative of Blakewood Groups who had just addressed him. The latter went on to start drafting a long outline of how Grayson Corp and Blakewood Groups would be connected.

It wasn’t very pleasant to sit through another person telling him plans for his own company but it was something he could overlook.

He recalled how Eve had chosen to stand by their grandmother and felt a hint of fury tugging at the walls of his mind.

Marriage…it was the only ticket he could use to regain control of his empire once again. It felt so superficial, and whatever matchmaking spirit had possessed his grandmother to prompt her into coming up with such an idea, it would be satisfying to see her face by the time she realized he wouldn’t be tied down.

Marriage? It could most definitely be broken by divorce, once he retrieved his shares from Blakewood Groups, reaching for a divorce agreement would be extremely easy.

Eve must have been brainwashed by some silly romantic idea of him falling in love, planted in her head by the Blakewood matriarch.

’I know, someday you’ll find someone who’ll break down your walls…’ These were words once spoken by Eve years ago.

’Do you know something Mom always tells me?’ she had once asked him.

’She said there’s always someone out there for everyone. Destiny, it’s what ties two people together that no matter how far away they are from each other, they’ll always feel one another, long for one another until they finally become one.’

’Mom is no longer here, Eve. Forget all that romance nonsense she taught you, it’s not real.’

Flutters in the heart, love, fairytale romances and destiny…utter crap that made some people dream of something than could never come true.

Tristan truly wanted Eve to grow out of that belief, it was a weakness that could be explored by anyone. The Blakewood matriarch had no problems exploring that weakness to get her on her side and gain acquisition of his company.

Eve had no idea that it was a lost cause…his heart would never be cajoled into that feeling because he wasn’t capable of it.

The very moment that thought registered in his mind, the air he breathed suddenly brought with it a sweet, floral tinged scent. It was a very familiar scent he couldn’t ignore because it tugged at a memory deep in his mind, a memory tucked away in the forbidden chambers of his mind kept securely buried.

Celine…

With that memory, a name rang in his mind like the loud echo of a bell being struck.

His gaze suddenly swept across the room, that scent didn’t seem to be coming from in here exactly.

Eventually his gaze drew towards the glass doors that separated the private room and the main restaurant, through a gap in the leaves of a plant kept outside the private room, he spotted a figure. Specifically a woman sat at a corner table….
