Chapter 108: Familiar

Her car arrived at Greenview hotel, the whole branch of this hotel had been held off for this event tonight. Elites and important people could be seen walking into the hotel, cameras and reporters flashing as guests strode over the luxurious red carpet leading into the entrance.

Celine saw the familiar scene and felt a slight clench in her chest, this was familiar because she had walked red carpets like this one before, it was usually bright, almost blinding but one would have to keep their head up, shoulders straight, poised and chin held high, smile at every angle because there were cameras everywhere, there shouldn’t be a single flaw, a single misstep.

Though it was a familiar situation, it felt like she was about to experience it for the first time.

“Madam, should we take the back entrance instead?” The driver suddenly asked, he seemed to have sensed her unease and nervousness.

Celine looked towards the buzzing entrance where a woman stood at the center of the red carpet posing with a distant look in her eyes as she replied. “Thank you Josh, I’ll get off here.”

He stepped out of the car and held the back door open for her, giving her a respectful bow of his head as she stepped out of the car. She nodded appreciatively to the driver and, immediately she stood at the edge of the red carpet the noise seemed to barrel towards her deafeningly, lights turned in her direction, countless flashes rendering her half blind.

For some reason, her feet momentarily stood frozen in spot, memories rushing through her head. She fisted her purse unable to take one more step forward suddenly recalling how a rotten egg had cracked over her head spilling down her face.

Words echoed in her mind, her re-entrance into the entertainment industry had felt daunting but she kept it in, breezing through it, perhaps this moment made it real because it resembled the same moments she had lived through in the past. A part of her was immensely scared, a fear she tried not to let show on her face.

’Get it together, Celine.’

She took in a deep breath, slowly releasing it and all the nerves within her was immediately suppressed, just as she was about to take the first step onto the red carpet a car suddenly arrived behind her, and almost immediately guards opened the back door and a man came down, her eyes met his and it felt like the wind itself had suddenly stopped.

He was dressed in an expensively tailored steel grey suit that fit perfectly against his body, he looked even more handsome with his hair elegantly swept back on his head, his hazel eyes stood out, glowing magnificently making him look like a descended celestial.

She wanted to avert her eyes, wanted to stop staring like someone in a trance, but something seemed to hold her in place, trapping her that she couldn’t look away. He was staring at her too, deep and unfathomable as his gaze was, it still made something warm dance around her stomach.

First, his eyes trailed her from her feet up, then focused on her face. There was something in his eyes that seemed stunned, almost enthralled, as if he too was having a hard time tearing his gaze from her.

The flutters in her heart increased significantly as they both silently gazed at one another, neither saying a word to the other until someone rushed over to interrupt.

“Celine, I’ve been waiting for you.” Ryan called out rushing towards her.

Kaleb rushed to Tristan’s side as well, having spotted him from afar.

“President, there are some people inside waiting to meet you.”

“Alright.” Tristan nodded, then proceeded inside. Kaleb was about to follow when he sighted Celine.

’Wow!’ he thought. She looked gorgeous!

He glanced at his boss’s retreating back,

’Don’t tell me president is leaving her here with him?’ Kaleb gave Ryan a nasty look, he never liked the man anyway and the way he always tried to cling to Celine was annoying to him as well even though he wasn’t romantically attached to the woman in any way, it made him wonder how his boss might be feeling.

’President has been avoiding her lately, is he giving up?’ Kaleb wondered then realized the man hadn’t been fighting for her in the first place, so it couldn’t even be called giving up.

Kaleb sighed to himself, it was too bad though, the woman was dignified in a way that couldn’t exactly be described and there was something different about her. It was already clear that she was smart otherwise she would have already been with that sugar mouthed Ryan by now. Kaleb was even more pleased with her within the span of weeks he had known her, if there was anyone worthy of being by the president’s side, it was definitely her.

His boss however, was a very prideful man, he was too cold for his own good, cold enough to ignore his own feelings even if it was right before his eyes. He never had to chase a woman himself, some women did the chasing, maybe he didn’t even know what to do to get a woman. Kaleb was in deep thought for a while… what if the president wasn’t giving up, what if he just needed a little help?

He stared at Celine for a moment longer before making a quiet plan in his head and then went inside.

Ryan kept talking, but Celine couldn’t exactly be certain what he was saying since she wasn’t paying attention. He took the initiative to hook her arm around his elbow then began to lead her towards the red carpet.

At some point, she managed to pull her hand away from his arm, the etiquette of being on a red carpet returned to her instantly. Her every smile to each camera was precise, calculated in her head when a camera was about to snap then she would direct her smile towards it, controlled and elegant poses until she walked off the red carpet.

When they were off the carpet, he grinned at her, shamelessly staring at her from head to toe, his gaze lingering around her chest where her outfit dipped to show some cleavage.

“You look stunning tonight Celine. Allow me to be your escort for the night. I’ll make sure you enjoy the party to the fullest!”

Celine gave him a kind smile, “How nice of you, but no need. I’d like to enjoy the night on my own, I don’t want to cause any gossip or rumors at the company. Besides, I wouldn’t want your girlfriend Emily to pull my hair, or was it Tiffany?” Celine dismissed him with nice words, she noticed how the mention of his girlfriend made him stiffen.

Ryan had noticed that she was avoiding him lately, but he certainly wouldn’t give up, the more she resisted, the more he wanted her and he was willing to get her at all costs. If she wouldn’t give herself easily, he had no qualms in taking her by force.

His eyes flashed with a sinister light as he watched her walk out on him. His stupid cousin had ruined things for him by mentioning the names of his past girlfriends, now she would always bring up Emily or Tiffany to get rid of him.
