Chapter 134: Is She Mine?

His hand slowly rounded up into a tight fist, and he retrained his gaze away from her face.

The thought of her with another man was too unbearable, his eyes closed and his heavy breathing slowly settled as he controlled the rising rage.

An urge rose within him, the urge to ask her one simple question,

’Is she mine?’

That child…

The answer to that question would change a lot of things.

Celine looked up at his back and felt a complicated mixture of feelings in her heart.

If she were to guess, she would conclude that he hadn’t gotten much of a good amount of rest since he donated his blood the other day. Which wouldn’t be good for him, not to mention how much he skipped his meals during work time. The thought made a mixture of worry for him and uncertainty to well up in her chest.

She recalled what Natalia had said to her, that she needed to have a straight up conversation with him, but he looked too pale and weak, talking to him about that kind of serious conversation right now would be weird. She told herself.

She would bring it up later, some other time.

It was easier to push off something one dreaded than to face it upfront.

“You should take the rest of the day off, I’ll fill in for you today, I’ll attend your meetings and finish up your tasks for the day.” She offered.

Though she had been planning to take some days off herself, she couldn’t bring herself to leave now seeing him in this state. She felt somewhat responsible for his condition right now.

He turned to look at her, his eyes somewhat stunned, searching her face as if he hadn’t been entirely sure he heard what she just said. Celine misunderstood the look in his eyes and went on to add,

“It won’t be too much trouble, I’m your executive, no one will question it if I handled your work for today.”

He frowned, “There’s no need for that, I’ll handle it.”

As he said this, he strode back to his seat beginning to focus on some work files piled up on his desk.

She’d heard some gossips in the company, talking about how he’d never taken a day off since the company started.

It was safe to say he was absolutely obsessed with his work.

Tristan had barely started going through the first proposal from the pile on his desk when he heard her storm out of the office.

He stilled, a look of regret rushing into him.

Was she upset?

Of course she would be, she had kindly offered to help but he turned her down, anyone would be fuming with anger at that.

He clamped down the urge to go after her and tell her that she misunderstood his words, he wasn’t ungrateful for her offer to help, he just… he’d never had anyone offer to take things off his shoulder before, and even more baffling, he never felt the urge to lay everything down and let his work go for a while as long as it would please her.

With a sigh, he tried to shove every thought of her to the back of his mind to focus on the list of proposals, but every so often she would creep in again, this happened several times over the next hour until he couldn’t take it anymore. He grabbed a file off his desk and angrily tossed it halfway across his office all the way to the door just at the very moment his office door opened again.

He stiffened, seeing the very woman who seemed to have angrily stormed off barely an hour ago standing right there again, he was surprised to see her return but this time she carried a number of paper bags in her hands along with several people filing into the office behind her. She stopped for a moment, picking up the file he’d tossed to the floor then walked over to his desk.

Three people had followed her in, the only familiar person was Kaleb, the other two were managers of higher departments in the company.

“Could you clear the table please?” Celine said to Kaleb who nodded, immediately moving forward.

“Right away Miss Roberts.”

Tristan watched with bewilderment as Kaleb came up to take away all the proposals on his desk.

“What are you doing?” He questioned Kaleb with a stern look in his eyes but the latter merely replied,

“I’m doing what Miss Roberts asked.” He said stepping back and taking away the proposal files.

“What is going on here?” The question was directed at Celine this time. Kaleb couldn’t help but chuckle at the massive difference in tone while the president spoke to him earlier.

The man addressed him with such strict coldness but when talking to her, his tone seemed to have changed significantly.

“I’m delegating all your tasks.” She replied steadily. “If you love spending all your time working so much, we might as well lessen your workload.”

“I don’t delegate important proposals to staff.” He stated.

“Don’t worry, they’ll forward the summaries of these proposals to you via email, it would still be you doing your work, but a lot less stressful.” She commented then turned to the three people she brought with her in the office.

She gave Kaleb a nod and he immediately began to distribute the piles of proposal files to the other two people in the office, keeping some for himself as well as they all began to work speedily.

Tristan was stunned at her actions. Though she had stolen these innocent managers from their jobs just for this, he had to admit it was quite an efficient thought.

“Look, you don’t have to…” He began with the intention of stopping her from doing this when she didn’t need to, but she immediately turned her gaze to him, her eyes conveying a strict light as she cut him off.

“Listen Mr Grayson, from this moment on if you don’t look after your health, then forget working. I will delegate all of your work to the staff in this company.” She said firmly.

“I think she’ll do it, president.” Kaleb interjected looking amused. It was clear whose side he was on in this whole scenario.

Tristan’s lips parted to speak but no words came out, Kaleb realized that his boss might have been rendered speechless.

It really was impressive to see his boss, who was as authoritatively destructive as a typhoon actually fall silent in the presence of a woman.

He would never in a million years allow someone else to even lay a finger on work tasks meant for himself, he would carry the weight of Grayson Corp on his own shoulders alone if he could, but of course he allowed miss Roberts to cross that line…she was that one woman after all. That one and only woman the president ever made exceptions for.

Seeing that his boss wasn’t protesting and he wouldn’t be protesting at all, Kaleb suddenly got an idea.

“Actually Miss Roberts, I can handle the meetings and every thing else he has left to do for the day but don’t you think he needs a good nap?”

He studied her expression for a while and noticed how she looked somewhat thoughtful.

“The president’s private lounge room is on the eightieth floor, there are no offices on that floor, so there won’t be any work noises to disturb his rest. He never uses that lounge room but I think he needs it most today, see how sick he looks.” Kaleb’s voice was lowered so only she could hear, he said the words with a genuine heartfelt sympathy for his boss on the surface but deep inside he was hoping she would buy it.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to create a little opportunity to keep these two people alone together.

Kaleb didn’t like Erica one bit, but his boss and miss Roberts, they had this connection that couldn’t be denied. He didn’t know if she had the president’s child five years ago or not but something told him they were meant for each other, it was best to push them together more so they could talk things out and reconnect.

“If I asked him to rest at the lounge he would never listen, but I think he might listen to you miss Roberts. The password to the lounge room is 220574.”

Celine looked in Tristan’s direction, noticing how his fingers constantly massaged his temple, his face looking extremely pale. She nodded to Kaleb’s suggestion and walked towards Tristan’s desk.

Kaleb smirked to himself, internally celebrating. Wouldn’t this be quite fun to watch?
