Chapter 89: So She Knows

Celine pushed the door open and entered, she made sure to avoid looking directly into his mesmerizing eyes.

“Good morning Mr Grayson.” She greeted, he seemed to be in a very good mood as he smiled widely showing his dimple. Celine couldn’t help but marvel at the power of genetics, Leah’s smile was just a miniature version of his own.

“Morning miss Roberts.” He said while shifting through some papers on his desk. He separated some documents from others and began piling them up in about a minute, he was done. The pile of documents almost looked like a tall skyscraper on his table, Celine wondered if all that was all the work he had to go through. He looked up to her gesturing she take a seat across from him.

She was more than glad to sit down as she was already wondering what terrible manners he has to make people stand around in his office.

“I apologize, you haven’t been assigned your duties yet. I have been quite busy outside the office lately so I didn’t get time to assign them to you.” He said while still half working.

“Busy with what?” She heard herself ask before she could stop herself. Why the hell was she curious if the ’busy’ he mentioned was actually him spending time with his fiancee.

He looked up, clearly she had gotten his attention by her curiosity. He smiled again and she could have sworn he was never a person to smile this much normally. “Are you curious about my personal life miss Roberts?” His voice was deep and manly, certainly every woman would get seduced by just listening to his voice.

Celine wanted to retort but he beat her to it by saying, “If you’re curious, just ask me directly.” He leaned over his table, his face coming closer as he whispered, “What do you think I was busy with?” There was this sort of mischievous glint in his eyes.

Celine almost felt sucked into his deep hazel eyes that she immediately looked away averting her eyes. What the hell was he doing? Was he probably trying to flirt with her?

“As a businessman, it is not good to have such an active imagination Mr Grayson, and if you should, you should keep that imagination to no one else but your fiancee, that also goes for whenever you randomly get urges to kiss someone.” Her voice was soft yet sharp enough to communicate the seriousness in her tone. There was an anger she was keeping hidden not letting it show, yet her blue eyes seemed like they were burning him, searing.

Tristan froze, the word fiancee ringing repeatedly in his mind. For a moment…no, since he saw her again he had completely forgotten about the other person in his life.

’So she knows.’ he thought to himself.

Erica hadn’t exactly kept the ring hidden, every television channel, and news outlets had spread that story.

The flash of anger in Celine’s eyes seemed to clutch at something in his heart.

This anger in her eyes…was it because she knew he had a fiancee?

Celine broke off her gaze which was fixed on his. Why had she even mentioned that?

Perhaps because ever since that night she saw that woman with a ring in her finger, she had felt… something weird she couldn’t describe. She couldn’t have let the anger she was feeling in her heart leak out, but…why had he kissed her when he had someone he loved?

“I wasn’t curious about you Mr Grayson, if I have free time there’s a lot of things I’d rather do with that time. What I am curious about is why I’ve been made to sit idly for two working days in my office, whatever kept you busy to not know that must be something critically important.” She uttered with coldness in her tone.

The air had seemed to suddenly shift and the light playfulness in his eyes turned dim.

What were these feelings he was having?

Whatever he had with Erica might have just been a casual agreement on a contract, but that didn’t change anything, he shouldn’t entertain these weird feelings his heart was pushing onto him for this woman.

“Well, then I guess I won’t be delaying your duties any further.” He said then pushed the tall stack of documents he had been picking out earlier to her front.

She glanced at him questioningly.

“Your work.” He said simply.

“What?” Celine gave the incredibly tall stack of papers a once over and then glanced back at him before picking out one document and opening it, his voice travelled to her ears,

“These are all proposals and plans, some are pitches and ideas that need to be considered. I’ve been pressed these days with matters concerning the ongoing project at Switzerland, I don’t have time to handle these trifles and they’ve been piling up lately, most of them have a deadline between today and tomorrow, so you will substitute me and handle all of them before today ends.” He explained straightly.

Celine felt her jaw almost drop, “To-today?”

He nodded, then gave her a seemingly encouraging smile before saying, “Get to it.”

What the hell, was this man joking?

He’d built this skyscraper with documents for her to work on and she had to finish today? Was he perhaps trying to punish her?

He typed on his computer with a strict look on his face as if he wasn’t at all bothered with her plight right now.

Celine could only hold it in, she took in a deep breath, this was her job anyway so she would have to do it.

She got up to pick the tall stack of papers when he spoke again. “Where are you going?”

“Back to my office to work on these.”

“No need to go back there, just do them all here.” He stated.

“Here? But…”

“All these papers need my signature if we are to approve them, would you like to go back and forth from your office to mine to ask a simple question which I’m sure you’ll need to ask, or even to get my signature? That will be a lot of work, won’t it?”

Celine hated that he was right.

Most of the papers here were official documents, though she knew what she was doing, he was the president of the company after all and every proposal of projects here are the most important to the company, if because of the back and forth movement she misses something and makes a mistake then it would end up bad for the company.

She finally showed a relenting expression and he went back to his typing.

“Where do I sit while I work?”

“Wherever seems comfortable.” He replied plainly.

Celine sat back on her seat across from him and picked out the first documents to go through. Seconds turned into minutes, minutes into hours, Celine felt somewhat exhausted and she hadn’t even finished through more than two full documents.

She got up and looked around, Tristan’s office was pretty large, and the couch set-up in the middle of the office looked way more comfortable and well, he had said to sit anywhere comfortable.

Celine picked about half of the stack then moved them to the glass center table in front of the couch, she glanced over at Tristan for a second, he seemed too engrossed in his work that he wasn’t even paying attention to her, that gave her more freedom. Her coat was feeling quite constricting so she just took it off leaving the white formal shirt underneath. She made herself fully comfortable on the couch then picked up a file to continue her work.

A few more hours passed and it was almost noon, Celine yawned again as she had been yawning for a few minutes now. She glanced over at him but he was like a working machine, speedily typing away, he didn’t even look tired, it was as if he didn’t feel fatigued at all.

Though when she was young, before she fully got famous in the entertainment industry, she had worked at her father’s company for a while but it was never as hectic as this, and what was killing her the most right now was the boredom of going through such monotonous official words, it was truly boring. At least reading scripts was entertaining, but this…

Without any other voice, she dragged out another document from the stack which was slowly beginning to come down by now but she wasn’t halfway yet, plus there were a few more she had left on his table.

Occasionally, she would call his attention to ask him a few questions on things she didn’t know about the company and he would answer her but he wouldn’t so much as look up from his work. Celine noticed he seemed to be really focused.

Kaleb walked into the office at this moment, “President, here are a few more of those files. Their deadlines are almost over as well and…”

Kaleb was speaking when he noticed Celine on the couch with a pile of documents in front of her, his mind was quick to understand the situation so he halted the remaining words he wanted to say.

Shit, he could have sold his boss away just now had he completed the words he was saying.

’…and I’ve gone to every department to find any more work with a deadline of tomorrow but these were all I got.’ had he said it, of course miss Roberts would have understood that his boss was purposely using the work to keep her in his office.

At least that was how it seemed to Kaleb his boss was doing, after all, why else would he have tasked Kaleb to find all the urgent work with deadlines this morning and bring them to his office only for Kaleb to see the woman he likes buried in that work.

Though Kaleb knows romance, this was the weirdest type of way to keep the woman you like so that your over flirtatious cousin won’t find every opportunity to go flirt with her.

For those two days that Celine had been in her office, Ryan had made it a priority to invite her for lunch during the breaks or he would find reasons to come to her office repeatedly. When Kaleb had reported this to his boss, because he had kept an eye on the first woman he noticed his boss liked, Kaleb had noticed how incredibly displeased Tristan had looked. He never expected his boss to use this method to keep his woman with him.

Kaleb couldn’t help but quietly give his boss a thumbs up. ’Nicely done president.’

After quietly dropping the documents, Kaleb sneakily left the office. Though this romance was the weirdest he’d ever seen, he wouldn’t want to interrupt the bint sized progress his boss might make, he just hoped his boss would try to strike up a conversation with the woman and make a big impression.

He was counting on this so that Erica wouldn’t end up becoming Mrs Grayson.

If this worked out and the president married Miss Roberts instead of Erica, wouldn’t this be happily ever after for his boss?
