Chapter 93: A Bitter Heart

“Are you questioning my personal affairs now?” Tristan queried, he suddenly chuckled to himself, there was no mirth in his eyes.

He stood up from his seat, lifted Erica’s hand and stared at the ring on her finger, “Because of this? I could easily get rid of it and there would be no marriage.”

Erica was frightened by his gaze and the light threat in his words. She was engaged to him after so many years of being by his side, she couldn’t lose this.

Erica immediately stepped backwards and snatched her hand from his light grip.

Actually deep inside, she felt aggrieved.

Why…why was it still difficult to amount to anything in his eyes?

Why was he doing this to her? Why couldn’t he care about her?

But all those words were kept suppressed inside and she swallowed them.

“I’m sorry, that came out wrong. It just seemed to me like you and that woman are close and because everyone thinks we’re engaged, if they see another woman around you, it might ruin your reputation and people will begin to doubt our engagement. I didn’t mean anything by what I said.”

He said nothing, merely returning to his seat as if she were nothing important he would like to bother about.

“I’m busy Erica, leave.” He uttered frigidly.

“But what about Grandma? She said that…” An ice cold gaze made her words stop abruptly and she quickly lowered her eyes.

She, Erica Williams never easily cowered in front of other people except him. She never gave her heart to other men except him. Though she had a lot to say, she would endure and stay in silence, she was in his life now, nothing could ruin that for her.

Quietly, she gave an understanding nod and turned to leave, but his voice made her halt in her steps.

“Only come to me when you’re called Erica, that was the agreement.” That reminder made the sharp hurt in her chest increase by leaps and bounds. But instead of showing her pain, she uttered calmly.

“I understand.”

His eyes, they had held no warmth for her, but she had seen that warmth the minute she walked in on him with that woman.

Her expression of hurt hardened, but no one could see the light trace of ruthlessness flash past her eyes, so fleeting one would have almost missed it.

’No matter what, you’re mine now anyway, you can’t get rid of me. I love you Tristan, I really love you, and I believe you can love me too.’

She began to walk out of his office in a composed strut. The face of the woman she had met in his office returning to her mind.

’That vixen, how dare she come back? I’ve worked really hard to get rid of her, how dare she…?’

Erica was sure it was her, it was those same blue eyes, that same striking face. Just when she was on the verge of making Tristan hers, just when she had his ring on her finger. Erica’s fingers clenched around the handle of her bag, her grip so harsh and destructive, it could have snapped in two if it were a fragile piece of twig.

’It doesn’t matter if you came back, you can never take him away from me.’ Her downcast eyes lit up as if she had gotten a remarkable idea and a smirk appeared on her lips.

’If you have not learned your lesson from what I did to you five years ago, don’t blame me for being ruthless.’

Erica placed her phone against her ears as a ringing sound echoed.

“Hello madam, I almost thought you have forgotten about me, it’s been five years since you last called me for an assignment, what job do you have for me this time?” A male, frighteningly gruff voice sounded on the line, his tone of speaking was laced with an inherent kind of eerie danger.

“It’s that bitch again Henry, I thought I completely got rid of her, who knew she still had the guts to come back? I want you to teach her a lesson she won’t forget, this time, make it so she’s gone for good.” Erica’s voice sounded within the seclusion of the elevator, her voice heavy with resentment she kept suppressed but leaked through.

The man over the phone chuckled darkly, “Don’t worry madam, I guarantee this time you will get an even better result than five years ago, I’ll have her running with her tail between her legs, she wouldn’t dare return to Neville again.”

“Good, if I’m satisfied, I’ll triple your pay.” Erica said.

There was excitement in the man’s voice as he assured, “Alright, I’ll get the job done perfectly, you won’t have any complaints.”

Erica hung up the phone, her face in the brightly lit elevator twisted in deep hatred as she recalled the situation from five years ago.

Everything had been going perfectly well, she had been close to Tristan, being by his side for work like his right hand person, it was only a matter of time before she made him hers completely and gained the title of Mrs Blakewood and Mrs Grayson both at once, but one night, just one night had ruined it all for her.

On that night, there had been a woman in his suite…

Hate swirled through her as she recalled the call she had taken on his phone five years ago. Thinking about the fact that she had spent a night with Tristan while he had never done more than discard her, Erica felt like dragging the woman over hard floors by the hair. Tristan was her man!

It was after that phone call and how Tristan had yelled at her that Erica had done her thorough search, she had slowly uncovered everything bit by bit and realized what happened.

At first she had been enraged…it wasn’t a new thing that Tristan had a woman in his bed, but what was even more alarming was the fact that after that woman, Tristan never touched another ever again.

Erica curled her hands into fists.

That woman wasn’t the only woman Tristan had slept with, but Erica had made sure to ’take care’ of all the other women who had ever gotten into his bed in the past. She had never gotten in his bed because of the professional boundary that stopped him from touching her, but that didn’t mean she didn’t feel jealous if other women got to sleep with him.

Erica thought she had ruined that woman five years ago, to destroy her and that little pregnancy she kept to herself.

Yes, that woman had been pregnant and it seemed to be Tristan’s.
