Chapter 57: Goodbye

“Does it make you happy to come out shopping so happily after stealing other people’s husbands?” Someone yelled.

“Even if you were an actress and even if you have a lot of money and power, you still won’t be able to get away from this. You don’t deserve to be called a woman, sleeping around so shamelessly then got pregnant but that still didn’t teach you a lesson, instead you try to abort the child. Disgusting!”

Celine’s brows came together at their words. She had no idea what they were talking about.

“What are you talking about? Who took people’s husbands?”

“Shut up! We don’t want your flimsy excuses and even if you pretend not to know anything, it won’t save you.”

Celine had absolutely no idea what was going on, but she knew this was definitely an unsafe situation for her. But she was currently surrounded by all these people who seemed so angry they were throwing such rude and harsh words at her. She thought of trying to reason things out with them and figure out what was going on first but it seemed they wouldn’t give her the chance, because the moment she tried to speak again they suddenly started throwing things at her.

“Take that, it suits you because your personality and character is just as dirty.” A harsh voice reached her just as something smacked her head.

A rotten smell assaulted her making her stomach churn violently.

She sucked in a sharp breath as a rotten egg broke against her forehead spilling over her face.

“What are you doing? Stop…please stop!” Her cries fell on deaf ears as all these women threw things at her without stopping.

Could it be about Ian again? Were these his fans?

She had been partially aware that Ian had some toxic fans but she never assumed they would do something like this without being scared of the consequences at all.

She had no idea that they weren’t Ian’s fans but Claudia Harley’s fans.

Claudia Harley was Ethan Harley’s wife, the male actor whose picture had appeared with Celine this morning along with many others.

Claudia was a model and her marriage with Ethan had been highly publicized as well, all of Claudia’s fans considered her relationship perfect and beautiful, they were the ideal couple people idolized, their romance was never hidden to the public and many people stood solidly behind them. This led them to be a little more aggressive with Celine.

Making a group, stalking down Celine just to deal her with such a petty revenge on Claudia’s behalf.

Celine’s effort to get out of there were halted by the girls who made sure to block her paths to reach her car. A violent wave of nausea and dizziness came over her and she almost swayed but she caught herself and continued trying to push past the crowd but they were determined to humiliate her.

“Where do you think you’re going? If you love ruining people’s lives so much we’ll ruin yours too.”

Someone suddenly shoved her by the shoulders making her fall to the floor at the same time another rotten egg landed on her chest breaking open on her shirt soaking her with that same stomach turning smell again.

That was when a sound they never thought would come out of Celine travelled into their ears.

She laughed, a soft low chuckle to herself as she glanced down at the broken egg on her body.

The young women ready to toss more eggs at her stopped, then looked at each other in bewilderment.

What was funny?

The woman on the floor had rotten egg dripping down her face, along with rotten vegetables but she still had the nerve to laugh?

Trapping someone for petty revenge just to toss rotten eggs and vegetables at them, it was unbelievably stupid yet unpleasant.

Celine looked at their faces one after the other, she was in her early twenties as well, but for some reason they suddenly looked like kids to her.

Fans willing to put themselves at risk for a star that probably wouldn’t acknowledge them if they were in his presence.

Judging from their anger, it didn’t seem like Ian’s issue since that had long since died down already.

So there had to be more rumors about her and more people were hating her again, to be honest she was tired to taking other people’s hatred quietly, people who didn’t even know who she was but judged her either way.

She was so damn tired…

“Did you all do this because you think you can get away with this?” Celine pointed to a CCTV camera on the streets and then another one and another one. The whole area was surrounded by CCTV cameras for safety purposes and there might not be anyone around in this moment but if she wanted to get back at them and punish them all for this, she could very easily do so.

“All the footage is automatically saved and all your faces have already been captured.” She was breathing heavily, struggling to keep down the rush of vomit threatening to rise up her throat.

“I’ll press charges and find each one of you, and believe me your lives will never be the same again.” She pointed a hand at one of them,

“You look eighteen, just the right age to spend years in jail. You’d never be able to get a grasp of your own life, years wasted away for committing a crime. This is a crime, do you all really want to waste your future for a star?”

They were just kids, and if they really refused to heed her warning, she definitely wouldn’t let a single one of them off.

They all halted, looking at each other fearfully. A few of the girls suddenly threw away their baskets of rotten vegetables and ran off covering their faces with their palms to avoid being further visible in the CCTV cameras while some of them remained.

“Don’t be scared of her guys, we’re doing this for Claudia and Ethan, if she tries to hurt us, they won’t let her.” The girl who seemed to be their leader encouraged but the others already looked so frightened they couldn’t move. Claudia and Ethan didn’t even know they exist, they could be convicted for this and no one would care to save them.

The first girl seemed determined even if the others no longer dared to move, she grabbed another egg about to toss it at Celine when the sound of an incoming set of cars pierced through the air.

The shiny black car at the front was driving swiftly towards the crowd by the road. The driver seemed crazy as they acted as if they hadn’t seen the people they were driving towards at a fast speed, if those girls hadn’t quickly jumped away the driver seemed to have no intention of stopping.

The girls all scrambled away in different directions leaving Celine whom they had all surrounded and the car came to a screeching halt in front of Celine.

“Who the hell is driving like they want to commit mass murder?” The angry girl yelled, yet there was a hint of fear when she noticed the two other cars behind stopping there as well.

A set of people suddenly rushed out of the cars at the same time. Armed men dressed in uniforms rushed towards the crowd of young girls as they immediately began to scamper away but they were all caught.

Celine glimpsed the familiar figure of Elise, then Natalia among the people who had just come to her rescue but she couldn’t even bring herself to let out a sigh of relief.

She was weary, emotionally exhausted at the thought that she would have to face another hate train from strangers.

Natalia quickly ran towards Celine ignoring the crowd of young women who were already being captured by the men before they could even get the chance to run off, only the few who had escaped just a while ago had been spared.

“Celine, how could you be so careless? Didn’t you see the news, why did you come out?” Natalia scolded as she quickly helped Celine up.

She had gone to Celine’s place early this morning after seeing the news to realize she wasn’t home, Natalia had panicked and immediately contacted Celine’s manager.

Someone was secretly filming the situation of Celine being stoned with rotten vegetables live so Elise immediately knew where to find her and they had driven so fast to get to her.

Tears suddenly shone in Celine’s eyes when she spotted familiar faces surrounding her. Natalia helped her into her car and Elise spoke to the guards that came with them.

In this moment, the noise around her were drowned out by her own rapid breathing, there was a heavy weight in her chest. Celine realized she had done a lot of things wrong in her life.

She had allowed the wrong people take advantage of her…she allowed Ian to take her for a fool, allowed her abusive family to use her all because she wanted their love, allowed a sister she trusted walk all over her, betray her trust and treat her like dirt.

Being an actress she’d had power, a kind of power that could have gotten her out of ever encountering a situation like this, but she had allowed herself lose it. She had aimed for a simple life, here she was right now, a victim of other people’s lies and deception.

Not only her family, but the whole world seemed to want to walk all over her now.

The tears blinded her vision. She didn’t even look at where Natalia and Elise were taking her, it didn’t matter if they were taking her home or not, she no longer felt at home in this city where she constantly had to hide, constantly had to fear for her own safety.

’You’re weak Celine… If you were stronger, no one would ever be able to hurt you.’

A tear slid down her face quietly and she closed her eyes her hand reached up quietly to caress her belly where there was already a very tiny bump making itself known.

If she had a new life…she would never be this person again. This soft, easy to hurt Celine.

Two days later, an airplane rose to the sky leaving Neville, inside it there was someone seeking a new life…a clean page to start over.

Looking down at the city where it had all began and all ended, Celine felt no regrets.

“Goodbye.”
