Chapter 106: Married In The Future

“Took you long enough to return, five years precisely.” He said.

The man had a voice like thunder on a distant street, his deep heavy voice sent a chill down her spine for some reason.

Celine studied the man’s features as he walked closer to her. Full brows, sharp eyes like black steel and a mysterious smile on his thin lips.

She hadn’t seen this person before or ever met him, how did he know her?

“Who are you?” Celine asked warily. In front of her there was this strange man who came out of nowhere and behind her was what felt like a thousand foot drop from the rooftop of the building, but something told her this man wasn’t here to harm her.

His eyes narrowed harmlessly, “Ah, you don’t remember. Seems I’ll have to introduce myself to you, which will be a little awkward.”

Celine frowned as he got close to her, it felt a little too close for comfort but she suppressed the immediate instinct to push him away.

“What makes introducing yourself as a stranger awkward?” She asked, yet on the inside she was alert. She kept her eyes on him to anticipate any sudden moves she would need to counter.

“Well, maybe because I’m not exactly a stranger.”

“Have we met before?” She queried wonderously. If she thought about it, something about him did seem a little familiar. She couldn’t tell if it was his aura which oozed a strange calmness, or his face which she was sure she had never seen before.

He nodded, “We have met and we definitely have a long standing promise between us.”

Celine couldn’t take the mystery anymore so she suddenly walked around him when she couldn’t figure him out by studying him or by his words.

Promise? What promise? None of what he said was making any sense to her right now.

“Look, I have a lot of work to do. I don’t think you and I have ever met before and whatever it is you’re saying about five years ago, I’m not that woman anymore and right now I’m not interested in whatever you have to say.” Celine believed it would be a waste of her time if she remained here trying to figure out a stranger who wasn’t giving her any context from his words.

It didn’t matter how he knew her, perhaps from her movies, from the wedding she absconded, from her scandals, all of that really didn’t matter to her anymore.

Just as she was about to press the button on the elevator which would take her back to the ground floor she heard the man’s voice behind her saying,

“It isn’t so nice to walk away from your own fiancee is it?” Those words caused her to stop, frown and then turn around.

“Excuse me?”

The man smiled ruefully and slowly approached her again, this time extending his hand forward to shake.

“Julian, I’m Julian Grant.”

Julian Grant? Celine repeated the name in her head because it sounded familiar, but not familiar enough for the man to be her own fiancee without her knowledge, it was actually laughable but she wasn’t exactly In the mood to laugh at the moment.

As Celine thought about it, she realized she knew the name but it wasn’t in a intimate manner, it was a name many people would recognize as well.

Julian Grant, a wealthy businessman from Belmore city. The previous owner of Eclipse estates and the current owner of Eclipse Kitchens, the full chain of restaurants in Neville and abroad.

If Celine recalled any last interaction she had related to the name Julian Grant, it would be that one time she had gone to see Tristan five years ago, when she had pretended to be a representative from Belmore city’s Eclipse estates. She recalled meeting a man whose face she hadn’t fully seen yet.

Recognition instantly flashed in her eyes.

That was it, this man’s aura was exactly the same as that guy with the baseball cap back then.

Was it him? Julian Grant?

“Remember now?” He asked with a pleased look on his face, perhaps having noticed that she seemed to recognized him.

“We’ve only met once, at Grayson Corp, I hardly remember you slipping a ring on my finger or me saying yes.” Celine’s words were straightforward, she didn’t want to waste time in playing around because it seemed that was exactly what this man aimed to do, “Look Mr Grant, I really don’t have time for cheesy pickup lines right now. The we’ve met before, or you’re my fiancee trick is a little outdated and quite frankly…lame. Let’s not waste each other’s time here, I’ll walk away respectfully, please don’t follow me.”

Having said that, she pressed the button to the elevator, waiting for it to arrive when he said something else that had her taken aback.

“Do you really not remember the name Julian? Think again Celine, fifteen years ago?”

If she thought back to fifteen years ago, it was around the time her mother was still with her.

Celine’s eyes suddenly filled with distant longing, back then…she would never have known that her life would turn like this.

When she was reminiscing about her mother, the image of another woman’s face immediately came back to her.

Aunt Miranda, she used to constantly address the woman by that name. That woman was the only friend she would always see around her mother, a friend that had seemed more like a sister.

And Celine could remember that, there was always a boy by aunt Miranda’s side. A boy she always called Juju.

’Your name sounds silly.’ She could remember a child, around nine to ten years old saying to the boy, her younger self.

’Juju isn’t my real name, Mom just calls me that. My name is Julian.’ The boy had replied defensively.

’Do you know what would make us family? If Juju and Celine end up getting married in the future.’ Aunt Miranda had once said.

Celine could remember scrunching her face at that idea. Why would they be talking about her marriage when she was still so young?

’Of course, they would be perfect for each other. Childhood friends always end up married in the future.’ Her mother had agreed looking at her affectionately.

Celine remembered them signing a wager, just a weird written document they had both signed as a marriage agreement for their kids in the future.

Back then, aunt Miranda had left the country several years after her mother died and she had never seen or heard of the woman again.

Now as Celine looked at the man before her, she could see the recognition fully settle in.

It really was him, Aunt Miranda’s son!
