Chapter 150: Empty Altar

The room was plunged into a hurried frenzy, Erica sat calmly staring at herself unblinkingly in the mirror.

Behind her on the wall, there was a long portrait photograph of a handsome man. Tristan, her Tristan.

“The first time he and I met, I was wearing a very beautiful dress, when he looked at me, I could feel that he saw me as a woman, he was attracted to me right from then but he tried not to show it.” Erica began talking, her voice suddenly sounding made the makeup artist pause awkwardly, not knowing what she was talking about at first before her gaze trailed where Erica was looking and she spotted the handsome man. The well known Tristan Grayson.

The makeup artist smiled fawningly, “Your husband to be is so handsome, you’re suited to each other. If you two have children in the future, they will look like angels.” Currying to the wife of Tristan Grayson would get her far, the makeup artist surely wanted to get on Erica’s good sides.

Erica took this compliment with a wide smile even though something bitter was crushing her heart right now.

’Get out, I never want to see you again. The contract is over.’

’You will never become my wife!’

She broke out of the recollection of his words, swallowing a rigid lump down her throat.

The first time they met she had made the greatest efforts to dress up, she knew she would be meeting with the renowned Tristan Grayson, but he merely went straight to business without even giving her a second glance.

’You will never become my wife!’ the words rang in her mind again.

Tears streamed down her face as her hand tightened against the bulk of her wedding gown.

“Oh my…you can’t shed tears of joy right now, it’ll ruin the makeup.” The makeup artist remarked.

Erica ignored the makeup artist, remaining fixated on the good memories of the past. The good memories of the times she thought he would someday want her, just as badly as she wanted him.

His indifference towards her had made her even more attracted to him, never once had a man ignored her advances before, even when he drew a line between them, Erica still wanted him and from that moment, she vowed to make him hers someday.

Today was supposed to be that someday…

She would kill them, all the people who lied to her!

She had bought that incense from an illegal underground auction, watched it being tested on a man whose mind was eventually under the control of the person who lit the incense.

This whole time she had been so certain she could become his real wife, not a fake because she had a powerful weapon like that incense in her possession, she had spent millions to purchase it, built a rigid plan around it. First, get rid of any rivals who might return to his life to later fight her or her future children for inheritance, second use the incense a day to their wedding to make him believe she was the one and only woman he truly loved, and third, live the rest of her life in luxury.

A life she had envisioned…how could she suddenly let it go now?

Till this moment, every word he said to her this morning stung her heart.

The makeup artist hurried off to find some tissues to wipe her tears, left alone Erica stood up and walked towards the portrait of him hung up on the wall.

“Tristan…” She uttered bitterly running her hand down the picture, tracing his face, the sadness in her eyes slowly morphing into something deadly.

“Let me tell you something you don’t know about me, I… always fight for the things I want.”

A crooked smirk crossed her face along with another tear sliding down her cheek again, but she laughed through the tears, a twisted sound that might lead one to believe she was slowly losing her mind.

Back then even while seeing her own mother dying she had still chosen to leave and grab the life she wanted for herself, a life of luxury and wealth.

But it might have been a coincidence or a twist of fate, a year after she returned to her father’s home, he brought in another woman. And her new stepmother turned out to have a daughter of her own. For a while, Erica got what she wanted, luxury, and all her desires at the snap of a finger until competition came along.

Her father began to share her things with her stepsister in the name of being fair to his stepdaughter. It didn’t take long for Erica to realize that there was only one thing standing between her and becoming the one and only princess in her own home, her stepsister.

“Do you know what I did to her? To that girl who was stealing all my father’s love, money and attention from me?” Erica asked Tristan’s portrait with a glint in her teary eyes, “I sent her to hell!” She whispered like a secret then burst out in a fit of evil laughter.

Erica clearly recalled the night she had snuck into her stepsister’s room after taking a knife in the kitchen, she had covered the unsuspecting girl’s face with a pillow and plunged the knife straight into her chest.

Younger Erica had stood unremorseful as blood dropped from her hands, she watched with an expressionless face as her stepsister had her eyes wide open in shock until she suddenly stopped breathing, then she had gone to her father with bloodied hands and the man ended up covering up her crimes.

How could he not, she was his one and only daughter. Because of that his wife left, with a hefty compensation never to expose her daughter’s death and Erica’s involvement in it if she wanted to live.

“I never share anything with anyone, and for all those people who turned you against me, they can only die!”

The makeup artist who had returned to the room with a box of tissues cowered as she witnessed the pure look of ruthlessness in Erica’s eyes, a strange need to run overcame her but she quelled it down. Being named the artist that did the makeup of the Blakewood family’s new daughter in law on her wedding was an honor she wouldn’t want to miss.

Several minutes later Erica entered the bridal car which took her off to the stately Blakewood estate. She marched carefully into the massive ballroom designed for the wedding, smiling and greeting anyone who looked her way as if nothing was wrong at all. But the people’s faces were strange, complicated, and just as she walked up to the altar, it was completely empty, her groom was nowhere in sight.

Erica’s fingers turned white as she gripped her skirt tightly till her veins bulged, she had anticipated this…the next second, she went falling in a dead faint, people rushed up to her, but no one was quick enough to catch the smirk on her red lips.
