Chapter 147: Husband And Wife?

Tristan glanced at the time, it was almost midnight and he had just finished all the things he had to take care of.

He double checked for any issues he would have to take care of or any extra work to immerse himself in, but there was nothing pending. For the past few days, Tristan had worked tireless, overtime and he had now finished all the pending tasks he had left but he was still looking for more work to do.

“Uhm… president, there’s really nothing else, why don’t you just go home and get some rest?” Kaleb said noticing how Tristan was checking every file on his desk as if looking for more work to do. What kind of a workaholic was this man?

Tristan dropped the files he was checking with a small sigh, he pinched the space between his brows in frustration. How would anyone understand that only by burying himself with work could he distract himself enough to not think about her?

Confirming there was really nothing else left to do, Tristan got up from his seat, standing on his feet, his face clouded for a few seconds before his eyes were able to focus.

“President, are you alright?” Kaleb asked noticing how utterly exhausted Tristan looked.

Tristan silently nodded then proceeded to walk out of the office. Leaving the company building, he got into his car and asked the driver to take him home.

Kaleb was glad his boss finally decided to go home and rest, regardless of how hardworking he was, his body was not a machine, he was still human after all and he would eventually get drained.

As the car parked in the driveway of his mansion, Tristan alighted the car and went into his home. His head throbbed badly and his vision occasionally blurred, he decided to go inside and try to get some rest.

Walking inside his house, something seemed strange. But after turning on the lights, he dismissed the feeling when his eyes met with the tidy, and empty space of his home as it usually was.

He went straight up into the master bedroom, the lights automatically turning on, the entire house was silent, echoing with every step he took. Now without any distraction, his mind was filled with thoughts and images of her.

Her big blue eyes, her gorgeous smile and every single moment he spent with her.

With a low curse, he shrugged off his jacket, then unbuttoned his shirt, taking it off before striding into the bathroom.

Sometime later he walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist, droplets of water trickling down his muscled chest.

He halted the action of drying his hair and frowned trying to notice something. Ever since he walked into his room there had been a faint smell in the air, but coming out of the bathroom now the smell turned sharper.

He sniffed a few times and the sharp smell became more prominent in his senses when it had barely been noticeable before.

This smell…where was it coming from?

His eyes roamed his bedroom, scanning every corner to figure out where exactly it was coming from and his gaze stopped in a certain direction.

In a corner behind the plush grey sofa, there was a faint line of smoke rising in the air. Tristan walked towards the sofa and squatted down reaching his hand under it, he pulled out a round object with strange carvings drawn around it. There were holes all over the object, that was where the smoke was coming from.

Tristan studied the object in his hand with a frown, but his attention was suddenly drawn away from the object in his hand as he felt the presence of someone in his room.

He got on his feet and turned around and the lights in his room suddenly turned off plunging the whole space into darkness.

But behind him, the silhouette of a woman could be seen.

Tristan might not be able to see but he could feel that person’s presence.

“Who are you?” He asked firmly but the person in the room remained silent.

He whirled around instantly, his hand grabbing a that figure’s neck in a chokehold but before he could utter another word or make another move he suddenly felt extremely dizzy. Unlike the one he felt earlier due to exhaustion, he staggered, feeling his fingers suddenly beginning to tremble.

Something warm rushed within him, and he suddenly felt intoxicated. The object in his hand dropped to the floor, it felt as if his body was on fire, his eyes unable to see things clearly, even the shadows in the room became distorted.

The woman began to approach him, her shadowed figure splitting into two, and three at the very same time.

“What… what did you do?” He growled, trying to gain some control over his own body. He shook his head trying to steady himself as he walked but he continued to sway, before he could reach the emergency button to alert the mansion’s security, a hand came around his arm, holding him. A rush of disgust suddenly welled up inside him and the shook off the hand holding him but it felt as if the more he moved, the harder it was for him to be able to carry his own weight.

The hand reached for him again and with a furious growl he flung the figure off, “Do not touch me!”

The figure was flung off to a far distance from him, but that one action seemed to have snapped off every bit of strength left in him. His knees hit the floor and his fingers dug a fist into the carpet but he couldn’t carry himself anymore. He could feel his consciousness slowly slipping away, he tried to force himself to hold onto consciousness, but the more he tried the more it left him.

He slipped into the darkness then back out again, at some point feeling a hand running the length of his body but before he could lift a finger the darkness would pull him in again.

At another point, he heard a familiar voice travel into his ears as a soft body laid onto his own,

“Tomorrow, we become husband and wife. There will no longer be anything between us, tonight you will be mine… forever.”

Realization dawned on him after hearing the voice and, that voice belonged to none other than Erica.

The Blakewood matriarch and patriarch had set the wedding themselves and he only had to show up there tomorrow. There had been a conflict in his mind, something fervently telling him to call it off.

Everytime he remembered the fact that he had to be sealed in matrimony with Erica, another face would spring up in his mind, the face of the woman he couldn’t have.

Anger surged into him and he gripped the hand that continuously touched him, gripped it so tight it almost broke like fragile glass in his hand but whatever it was she had done, consumed his senses until his grip slowly weakened. Unable to fight it anymore his eyes slowly closed and he was welcomed into darkness as he finally lost consciousness.
