Chapter 123: Heartless

The luxurious bedroom was filled with loud classical music blasting from the speakers.

Erica twirled to the music, a cream colored silk robe embraced her body, she grinned over a glass of wine against her lips as she took a sip, looking like the happiest woman alive.

The vibration of her phone which sat on the light pink sofa drew her eyes, after filling her wine glass with some more champagne, she plopped onto the sofa grabbing her phone then picked the call.

“Tell me, is the kid dead yet?” She asked, no trace of emotions other than glee and anticipation in her eyes.

She listened to something being said to her on the other end before she scoffed, “So the stubborn little devil refuses to die? If she won’t go quickly, I don’t mind speeding up the process. Did you make sure no one dared to donate their blood?”

A second’s delay before she continued, “Good, pay off anyone who’s a match, let the kid die a slow death. I want to see her grieve the child’s death, those brats shouldn’t have existed anyway if she wasn’t such a disgusting whore to jump into my man’s bed. Just make sure the kid is dead before you call me again.”

Erica burst into peels of laughter as she hung up the call, then sipped lightly on her wine, her beautiful face glimmered In the lights, showing a ruthless glint in her eyes.

She sighed dramatically then got onto her feet again, happily twirling to the classical music.

“That poor child.” She muttered, a fakely sympathetic look in her eyes, “Don’t hate me when you get to the other side, I’m not heartless, I’m just after what’s mine. You might not know this little kid, but no one can take what belongs to me. I’ve lived enough in mysery and poverty to know that it’s very disgusting and treacherous down there, I can’t go back down.”

The vicious look in her eyes intensified, she was the exact image of one’s morals crumbling down to pieces, a person willing to roll in the mud if they could get their hands on what they wanted.

She had made a sudden discovery, and that discovery had immediately changed the trajectory of her plans.

If she hadn’t stumbled upon those set of documents in her father’s office this morning, she never would have come to know that he was on the verge of bankruptcy.

How could he have hid something like that from her? Now she understood why he seemed so desperate and eager for her to marry Tristan Grayson, it turned out he was actually looking for a pillar to grab onto so he wouldn’t fall.

’Whatever you do, make sure you become his wife. If you fail to walk into the Blakewood family, then you better forget you were ever my daughter!’

Her father’s businesses were slowly coming to ruination and he was threatening to disown her if she didn’t succeeded in getting married to Tristan. But what her father didn’t know was that, more than him, she would never want to crumble down

As a child she had lived down in the dumps, feeding on scraps with a miserable mother who ran away from her abusive husband.

Erica always hated her mother. There was luxury and comfort, who cares if she suffered a few beatings? She had dragged her into mysery just because she couldn’t endure a little pain in exchange for a luxurious lifestyle?

Her mother was stupid, but she wasn’t!

At the age of twelve, Erica had stood over the deathbed of her mother in the tiny little shack they lived. The woman’s face completely hollowed out due to a chronic illness they couldn’t afford to cure.

The woman on the bed seemed to already know this was the end for her. The life she’d lived had been very tough, the man she’d loved had almost killed her with his bare hands, most nights she would lay on the floors with her own blood drying on her body, love had slowly faded away and she could no longer take being anywhere around him.

To her, her daughter had been her only solace, and in her final moment she wanted to express her undying love for her daughter. She extended a hand to Erica, seeking warmth and comfort from her but Erica avoided her like the plague.

Erica merely stared at her mother’s bony hand not wanting to go even a single more step closer to her.

This was her chance, from this day on, she would never allow herself to continue living in mysery.

Till this day, Erica had no idea exactly when her mother died. Was it after she’d left, running out of their almost broken home with leaking ceilings and rusty floors, or did she manage to survive a day longer, or even two days longer, she could never know, she had run as fast as her legs could take her to the nearest police station with tears in her eyes and told them she’d been kidnapped by her own mother for four years, abused by the woman, and she wanted to return to her father.

The police found the man for her and he took her in again, from then on she had lived like a princess, and that part of her life where her mother existed, was a painfully dirty nightmare she never wanted to relive again.

Now, her father was struggling to keep himself afloat, relying solely on this new coming alliance with the Blakewood/Grayson empire to lift himself up again, if it failed through her father would crumble and so would she.

Erica would never let that happen, she would never fall down to the dumps again.

“Go to heaven little child, don’t worry too much, I’ll send your brother with you after a while.” She hugged a pillow close to her chest, patting it gently as if talking to a child then laid it down carefully smirking down at the pillow, imagining the figure of a child who should be dead by now.

“Come tomorrow morning, one of my darling Tristan’s bastard brats will already be gone. Now I’m left with their slut of a mother.”

Erica had seen the way Tristan treated his own blood, his sister. Being the stepmother to his children might not be the best plan if she was going to secure her place fully as the one to rule the Blakewood/Grayson empire in the future. In the end, she could be kicked out and it would be him and his heirs.

Now that she’d come to know of her father losing his wealth, she definitely couldn’t take any chances. She would have to erase any traces of Tristan’s blood outside before she could settle in as his wife.

“You don’t have to worry Tristan, I will, from the kindness of my heart compensate you with kids that belong to both of us. It can only be you and I, no one else.”
