Chapter 122: Problem

Tristan had just left his office heading for a meeting when he heard his phone ringing. Not many people had his private contact, so a call usually indicated someone closely related to him.

But this time, the call came in from a strange unknown number.

“President, there’s going to be very dense traffic on the way today, if we don’t leave right now…” Kaleb called and he tucked his phone into his pocket striding to the elevator.

The phone rang again just as he was about to get into the car, he sat in the car, tossing the phone to Kaleb as he leaned back to rest, his eyes closing and fingers lightly massaging his temple.

Without being told, Kaleb knew he was required to answer the call on his boss’s behalf, he immediately swiped the screen and put the phone against his ear.

“Hello.”

“Hello, this is Neville city hospital. We’re calling to inform you that your daughter has been admitted into the hospital after an accident…”

Hearing the words said by a nurse on the other end, Kaleb froze, he was transfixed for two seconds, blinking to process what he just heard before he suddenly exclaimed,

“What?”

Daughter? He hadn’t heard it wrong right? Since when did the president have a daughter?

“Yes sir, we have some information here that says…”

“Hey Tracy, it’s a mistake. The number she wrote down there was wrong…” He heard someone’s distant voice inform and the woman talking to him over the phone immediately said,

“I’m so sorry sir, I believe we’ve had a mix-up. We contacted a wrong number.”

The shock immediately faded and relief replaced it, relief because suddenly discovering his boss had a child somewhere was too shocking.

Even with Tristan’s track record with the ladies in the past, it was still absolutely impossible anyone of them could have had his child with how thorough he was to make sure there wouldn’t be a mistaken conception. He reckoned even if a woman his boss slept with before had the intention of getting pregnant, she wouldn’t be able to slip her intentions past his boss’s strict eyes.

So it made sense that the call had just been nothing but a mistake.

Kaleb sighed and handed the phone back to Tristan. “What was it about?”

“Nothing, President. Just a case of mistaken identity, they got the wrong number.”

Celine sat at the edge of the bed, stroking Leah’s dark hair tenderly. “Don’t worry baby, Mommy is here. You’ll be fine, I promise.”

Leah gazed up at her mother weakly, her small face as pale as a sheet, though she couldn’t utter a word, she gave her a mother a weak smile before her eyes slowly closed again.

Celine immediately called the doctors when Leah seemed to have lost consciousness again.

“It’s nothing to worry about Mrs Roberts, she’s still too weak to be able to retain consciousness for long. But she urgently needs the transfusion right now.”

“You found a donor right?”

“Yes, we’re sorting out legal issues first. We’ll begin with the procedure immediately after.”

Celine sighed in frustration as the doctor exited the room. She glanced back towards Leah, her heart aching for her child when all of a sudden, a realization rose into her mind.

Earlier when she had been filling those forms, she had written down some digits on a blank space that said; father’s contact information.

She immediately recalled the string of digits she wrote and who they belonged to.

What if the hospital called Tristan and informed him?

Celine wasn’t prepared to face him with the revelation of their children yet. Not when Leah’s life would no longer be in danger since they had an official donor for her.

She immediately rushed out of the room and happened to find the nurse who’d given her the forms earlier around the hallway.

“I think I made a mistake on those forms, I wrote a wrong number into the father’s information in haste, can I correct it?”

The nurse’s eyes widened, she immediately rushed back towards the station to stop her colleague from making the call. Thankfully the mistake was immediately rectified before they’d made an unsuspecting person to rush over to the hospital for no reason at all.

Relief flooded into Celine when she realized they might not have called Tristan yet, she quickly erased his phone number from the forms and inserted something different. Just then, another nurse came to find her.

“Mrs Roberts, there’s been a problem. We can’t find the donor.”

Celine’s heart plummeted to her stomach. “What?”

“He just disappeared, he never informed anyone that he changed his mind.”

“But… what about other hospitals?” Celine asked desperately.

“We’ve contacted some nearby hospitals and blood banks but your daughter’s blood type Is extremely rare, they have none. We found adequate units in Mellton city hospital but that’s two hours away, we don’t have two hours Mrs Roberts.”

Hopelessness washed into Celine, her whole body trembling.

“What… what are we going to do?”

“Test my blood, we might be a match!” A familiar voice suddenly came from behind her.

Celine turned to find Natalia, perhaps the sight of someone familiar and close to her made all the pent up tears rush up, pouring down her face. She hurriedly embraced Natalia choking up in her arms unable to say anything.

“Please come with me ma’am.” The nurse immediately said to Natalia then turned to Celine to add,

“If you have other close relatives or even anyone from the child’s paternal side, please call them in for testing and potential donation, we don’t have much time.”

Celine froze at those words, she was left alone in the hallway after Natalia patted her shoulder comfortingly then followed the nurse.

Her close relatives…?

She had no one, Celine had made peace with that, but right now it stung her unbearably painful in her heart. As for Leah’s paternal side…her heart lurched.

It seemed she didn’t have another choice after all, even if she had vowed not to let Tristan know about her children, she wouldn’t keep that vow at the cost of their lives.

She immediately rushed back into the ward, rummaging through her bag for her phone.

She found Tristan’s number, her hand hovering over the dial button for not more than a second before she pressed the button, but just then, a beeping sound suddenly filled the room.

“Leah!” Celine shouted, her voice rough with fear as her phone slipped out of her grasp.

Leah’s body was convulsing badly on her bed, her face even paler than before. Celine’s tears spilled as she called for the doctor repeatedly.

The doctor immediately cleared them away from the child’s bed.

’No, please…nothing should happen to my child!’
