Chapter 37: Couldn’t Keep His Child

Why was Tristan here at this very moment?

It was probably a coincidence that he would appear in front of her eyes when she was thinking about something related to him…well, something related to them both.

To be honest, with thoughts of abortion lurking in her mind, Tristan was the last person she wanted to see, but he was probably the first person she needed to see.

She had been sitting here, her mind being in turmoil at this huge decision she couldn’t make no matter how much she thought about it… surely seeing him here right now must be a sign right?

Celine slowly tailed his car until they drove into a luxurious looking residential area, when her car was about to drive in after him, a guard in a blue uniform stopped her and asked for an I.D and the name of the person she wanted to see.

Perhaps they had recognized Tristan’s car, they didn’t stop him and instead had bowed while his car drove through.

Celine knew that in high class residential areas like these, the guards would call the person to confirm if they were expecting a guest. It was a safety measure for the elites living in this area. But Celine couldn’t afford to have them call Tristan and inform them that she was here to see him. She wasn’t even sure if she wanted to tell him about her pregnancy yet or not.

While driving, Celine had taken off her face mask, so while she was contemplating if she should admit that she came here to see Tristan and how he would react if he heard that she had come to see him, the guard had recognized her.

The guard looked astonished as he looked again through the slightly rolled down glass to see if it truly was her. Celine Roberts, the big female star whose acting skills could bring an audience to tears.

The guard suddenly felt excited upon confirming that this woman in the car indeed looked like Celine Roberts.

“Miss, are you Celine Roberts?” He queried with pleasant surprise in his tone.

At his question, Celine realized she hadn’t covered her face in disguise. She panicked internally, no one had recognized her since the scandal, but now that the man had seen her, hiding would be pointless.

She gave him a nice smile and nodded in confirmation while keeping her eyes on where Tristan’s car had driven to.

“Sorry to bother you, but I’m just here to see a friend, it’s supposed to be a surprise so I don’t want her to know that I’m here.”

Celine latched onto the first excuse that came to mind hoping the guard would buy it.

“Wow! It’s really you, I’m such a huge fan, Miss Roberts. You may go in, I apologize for asking this right now but…could I get an autograph?” The guard seemed so excited to have stumbled upon Celine. Though she knew that there wasn’t a shortage of celebrities frequenting such elite areas, it seemed he genuinely was her fan.

Celine didn’t expect that there would still be people who genuinely loved her and didn’t care about the scandal that currently surrounded her name. It seemed truly, those who truly loved her as an artist cared for her talent.

“Sure.” She replied, quickly signing an autograph onto the back of a photograph he handed to her along with a pen, after which he allowed her entry into the residential area.

It was a good thing she had kept her eyes on where Tristan’s car was driving to, otherwise it would have been really embarrassing to suddenly get lost when she had told the guards that she knew where she was going and she intended to surprise a friend. She followed the exact direction she saw Tristan’s car approach and found a huge mansion which stood on its own at the far end of the road. She didn’t drive close but parked her car aside and walked towards the mansion where she could see through the steel gates that his car was parked.

When she arrived at the gate, she could see Tristan standing in the outdoor garden with his phone against his ear as his mouth moved but she couldn’t hear a word of what he was saying. He looked stern and handsome even from so far away, just as she remembered him. Sharp facial angles, attractive features and an irresistible aura. This was the first time she was seeing him again at this moment after that night, other than on the television of course. A strange tickling feeling surfaced in her chest and her heart began to race.

She didn’t know whether to call his name and make her presence known or not, and just when she was contemplating what to do, she caught sight of a woman’s figure walking out of the entrance of the mansion as she approached Tristan, her steps light and elegant as she sauntered to him in the garden.

The woman looked quite stunning and she moved with the cat walking ease of a model, but there was something familiar about her… Celine wondered where she must have seen her before.

It took a hot second for Celine to realize that the woman was Erica Williams, the only woman said to be close with Tristan, close enough that there were rumors of them being in a relationship everywhere. In those rumors, it was said that she was the only woman Tristan Grayson seemed serious with.

As Erica reached where Tristan stood, what she did made every cell in Celine’s body freeze.

Erica wrapped her arms around Tristan’s waist from behind, hugging him intimately while he was talking on the phone. He appeared shocked at first, seemingly hanging up the call then turned around to see who had hugged him. They exchanged words for a while, words that Celine couldn’t make out and Erica quickly threw herself into his body again hugging him tighter.

There was no movement from him as Erica embraced him, but the big smile on the woman’s face as she did so made something burning sink into Celine’s chest.

She didn’t know what she had expected following him here, she didn’t even know exactly why she had followed him but that sight sent a clutching feeling in her chest. She was washed with a wave of disappointment.

Why had she even followed him? They both had made it clear that night right?

It was just a single night and nothing more.

Just one night.

That had been the agreement, how could she have come all the way here when he didn’t want to see her again?

Celine recalled the conversation they had that night and when he had specifically to her,

’I don’t do relationships, and if after tonight you’re going to expect me to be…’

’I don’t plan to hold you responsible for anything, it will only be for tonight.’ she had replied to him, thinking that nothing would come out of a single night’s intimacy, she had been wrong.

’After tonight there would be nothing between us, you won’t try to find me for any reason whatsoever and I won’t try to find you either, neither of us will be held responsible for what happens between us tonight, and I will make certain not to appear in your life as well, is that alright?’ His words resounded in her head.

There you have it Celine, he warned you from the very start. You can’t hold him responsible for a pregnancy he never bargained for.

She told herself disappointedly.

Actually, suddenly seeing him when she had been in distress about her pregnancy, Celine had thought that perhaps it might be fate. She couldn’t decide what to do with a pregnancy, but perhaps if she told him about it, it would help her come to a decision.

Could she abort a child that was equally his as much as it was hers without informing him about it?

She had followed him with a quiet intention in mind, but he had a life of his own…and he never wanted this, he had made it clear to her that night, so how could she come burden him with news of a child he might not want? He was with his…his woman. Celine wasn’t the kind of person to come between people’s relationship.

That night he had left her in his suite without even saying goodbye even when she felt they had shared a connection, it was clear…he had forgotten her and the night they shared while she was there, trying not to dream about him whenever she slept.

Celine raised her lowered head and the scene before her remained the same, the woman still clung to the man hugging him tightly with a big smile on her face and there didn’t seem to be a protest from the man…which could be an indication that their relationship wasn’t a rumor after all.

Celine swallowed her disappointment and turned to leave with one resolute decision.

She couldn’t keep this child.
