Chapter 133: That Man In Her Heart

“Tristan!” Celine found herself rushing to his side, pulling his head onto her lap while shaking him, trying to wake him up. “Tristan, are you alright?”

He groaned slightly, his eyes opening a bit. He placed his hand against his forehead as if he were having a terrible headache.

“Tristan, are you unwell? Should I call the doctor?”

Her barging into his office had been an impulse act she hadn’t even thought about, all she knew was that a strange worry had gradually been filling her chest ever since she saw him at the conference meeting earlier.

She felt guilty because she hadn’t even thanked him properly yet, hadn’t checked on him to make sure he was feeling okay after he’d donated his blood, perhaps that worry had led her to run into his office now at the slightest signs of trouble, and seeing that he indeed looked unwell made her feel even more worried.

“No…” He finally replied, his voice tight and hoarse, “Don’t call the doctor.”

Hearing him speak brought at least some semblance of relief into her heart, slowly pushing himself upwards, he sat up, his brows furrowing tightly in pain and her heart clenched.

Celine rushed to her feet, fetching a glass of water from the dispenser and returned to his side handing it to him. “Here, have some water.”

He slowly looked up, being this close Celine noticed the slightly dark circles under his eyes.

“Thank you.” He muttered, taking the glass of water from her and having a few sips.

She took it back from him when he was fine and then supported him up, helping him over to the couch.

Seeing the thick exhaustion in his eyes, Celine felt an unknown anger rising within her.

Why on earth did he not care about his own health? He barely leaves the office, most times working overnight, was there nothing important to him but his work?

He looked up at her, seeing the angry frown on her face, “What is it?” He asked, his voice still sounding low.

“Do you ever know when to give yourself a break?” She questioned, her voice sounding annoyed.

“What?”

“Don’t you care about your health at all or have you never heard that depriving yourself of rest and sleep can kill you faster than cancer? All you ever do is work all the time, is there nothing else more important than that, can’t you even prioritize your own health for once?!” She was now fuming. The words that had merely been just a thought in her mind actually poured out of her because she couldn’t keep it in anymore.

She didn’t know why but it was always killing her. She would feel her heart aching whenever she noticed how exhausted he looked and she could never say a thing about it, but the words came out without control now but she never even felt regret for saying them, instead the more she uttered them, the more angry she felt on the inside.

He stared at her for quite a while, taking in how absolutely upset she looked, he suddenly felt like a kid being scolded. Nobody dares to raise their voice at him like this, because they knew his temper, but even after listening to her speak to him like that not even an ounce of anger could be felt within him. If anything, a part of him actually liked the way she just spoke to him.

There was an undeniable hint of concern behind her anger, that concern seeped into his chest filling it with something warm, it was a kind of feeling he absolutely didn’t hate at all, in fact…he might want to be scolded like this every day of his life, as long as it was her. But what he didn’t realize was that this single thought that crossed his mind, was his own desire for commitment, something he thought he absolutely despised, something he didn’t even feel for Erica, a woman he was supposed to be marrying in a few days.

Celine suddenly noticed a smile curling up on the edge of his lips,

“What the hell is so funny? Do you find death so funny, are you eager to go to your grave so early? Why did I even bother, you’re hell bent on killing yourself with your goddamn work…can you stop smiling?!” She was almost out of breath, yelling and scolding but he liked it…he strangely liked it.

In this case, it would be proper to say something to pacify her but he didn’t want her to stop, he remained silently, watching her continue to speak about how careless he was being and how he needed to be home in his bed resting, she seemed to get tired to talking to what seemed like a wall after some time and then sat down far from him on the couch taking in a deep breath to calm herself, then asked him in a much lower voice.

“Did you even understand everything I just said?”

He gave her a clueless look, deliberately acting like every word she said had merely skipped over his head without him grasping it. She looked like she would be angry again but calmed herself down then spoke gently, “What I mean is, don’t spend to many long hours at the office, eat your meals on time, sleep for at least seven to eight hours a night, do something else rather than sitting behind your desk working or attending meetings at least for one or two days in a week. Do you understand now?”

He was still staring at her without answering and Celine sighed in frustration.

Why was he just sitting there looking at her, she was talking to him!

“If you want me to do all those things, you’d have to keep an eye on me to make sure I stick to them yourself.”

She glanced at him with a raised brow and he continued.

“I work all the time because I’m very good at it. It gets my mind off things, if you want me to maintain a different schedule, you’ll have to carry the weight of it yourself.”

“How?” She asked, her voice much softer now.

“By showing me other things I could do with my time, things that have nothing to do with work.”

She immediately looked alert, averting her eyes from him. “Why would I want to do that?”

“Then we have nothing more to discuss.” He said getting up from the couch, dismissing all the suggestions she’d just made to him.

’I swear this man is suicidal!’ she thought in annoyance and quickly got up to support him when he seemed to suddenly miss a step, his eyes still looking somewhat unfocused.

“Fine, what kind of things do you do when you aren’t working?”

He tilted his head, glancing sideways at her face. Up close her skin looked extremely soft and supple, one would think touching a surface of her skin would make it ooze milk. Her lips were plump and rosy, soft enough a single glance would awaken a deep hunger to bite down on them just to taste their softness.

His hand lifted up to her face, she stiffened as his finger lightly caressed her cheek then she seemed to immediately come back to her senses and stepped away from him.

The sudden emptiness of her closeness led him to realize something.

Was he the reason she never wanted to be close to him, because she had that man in her heart?

A trace of anger suddenly flashed in his eyes.
